The Learning Resources Center (LRC) is an integral part of the academic units that report to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. The LRC advances the mission of the college through the comprehensive, readily accessible collection of VPCC curriculum related informational materials, instructional technologies, and other academic support services that meet the educational needs of students, faculty, and staff.

Acts as embedded tutor for assigned math classes. Attends class regularly, providing individual and small group instruction, assistance, and resources to currently enrolled students in math and/or writing courses. Holds individual and group appointments with students outside of scheduled class hours. Works closely with faculty to plan class activities, exchange feedback, and troubleshoot situations.

This is a grant-funded position. Continuation of employment is based on funding availability.

This position is designated as Campus Security Authority (Clery Act) and Responsible Employee (Title IX).

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated math teaching and/or tutorial experience at the high school or two-year college level.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the pedagogical principles in working with adult learners and underserved populations.
  • Experience working with adult learners and underserved populations.
  • Experience with learning management systems such as Canvas or Blackboard.

Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated understanding of mathematics foundations (arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry) necessary for success in associate degrees and certificate level career and technical programs and courses.
  • Familiarity with word processing and spreadsheet software, databases and electronic communications.
  • Proficiency with graphing calculators.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication and strong listening skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Analytic problem-solving skills.

Abilities:

  • Ability to create a safe and engaging learning environment.
  • Patience, flexibility, ability to vary teaching methods and resources according to student needs.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend hours.
  • Ability to work at multiple campus locations.

Additional Considerations

  • Experience with scheduling and tutor administration software such as Navigate and Brainfuse; experience with math instructional systems such as MyMathLab.
  • Experience in a higher education setting.
