Embedded Software Engineer 1 in Mossville, IL. The work will be done
onsite full time on first shift. This is a
12-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is
up to $46/hr + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).
Job Summary
We are seeking an early-career engineer to provide
Tier 2 technical support and troubleshooting for telematics and connectivity systems used across a broad range of products. This individual will investigate escalated technical issues, work with dealers and internal engineering teams, analyze electrical and communications systems, and help determine the appropriate path toward resolution. The position combines electrical troubleshooting, schematic interpretation, embedded-system knowledge, and technical customer support rather than focusing primarily on software development.
Key Responsibilities- Provide a Tier 2 escalation path for complex telematics and connectivity issues.
- Investigate technical support tickets escalated by customer-support teams and determine appropriate troubleshooting and resolution steps.
- Troubleshoot embedded, electrical, and connectivity systems using schematics, component data sheets, system information, and other technical resources.
- Work directly with dealers and collaborate with engineering and product-support teams to resolve technical issues.
- Escalate critical or complex issues internally to specialized engineering teams when additional technical guidance is required.
- Analyze system behavior and make appropriate system changes or recommendations to resolve problems.
- Utilize multiple technical data sources, including AI-based tools, as part of troubleshooting and analysis.
- Support telematics connectivity quality and help improve customer outcomes.
Required Qualifications- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a relevant technical field.
- 12 years of relevant experience. Internship experience is accepted.
- Basic understanding of technical troubleshooting theory.
- Strong electrical background and ability to understand electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and component data sheets.
- Understanding of J1939, Ethernet, and Modbus communication protocols.
- Basic understanding of embedded computer hardware and software.
- Programming experience with C or C++.
- Basic understanding of the software development lifecycle, including requirements, development, testing, and delivery.
- Strong technical problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Strong written and verbal technical communication skills, particularly when communicating with customers, dealers, and engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications- Previous experience troubleshooting telematics, connected products, embedded systems, or vehicle/equipment electronics.
- Experience supporting customers, dealers, field personnel, or technical-support organizations.
- Familiarity with CAN/J1939 communications, networking, and connectivity troubleshooting.
- Experience working with telematics test equipment.
- Experience utilizing AI tools and multiple technical data sources to investigate problems.
- Exposure to industrial, automotive, heavy-equipment, or other complex electromechanical products.
