Embedded Software Engineer 2 in
Mossville, IL. The work will be done
100% onsite on first shift, with no travel required. This is a
12-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is
up to $47/hr W2 + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).Job Summary
The Embedded Software Engineer 2 will develop, execute, and automate
Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) verification activities for embedded control systems. The role focuses heavily on
dSPACE-based test environments, system-level verification, test automation, ECU validation, and troubleshooting electronic control software and hardware. This engineer will work with MATLAB/Simulink, Python, Vector tools, and embedded communication protocols while collaborating with software developers, controls engineers, system integration engineers, and verification teams. The position combines hands-on test development and execution with automation, debugging, and system-level validation.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and execute HIL/SIL verification test plans for embedded control systems and ECUs.
- Configure, operate, and troubleshoot dSPACE and Vector-based test benches and validation environments.
- Develop and maintain automated test scripts, data collection, and reporting tools to improve verification efficiency and coverage.
- Perform defect analysis, root-cause investigations, debugging, and system-level verification of integrated software and hardware.
- Develop, execute, and maintain embedded software validation tests using dSPACE, MATLAB/Simulink, Python, and other automation tools.
- Collaborate with software, controls, system integration, and verification engineers on defect reviews and validation planning.
Required Qualifications- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a relevant field.
- 24 years of professional experience in embedded software verification, controls testing, or a related engineering area.
- Hands-on experience with HIL/SIL validation and testing.
- Strong experience with the dSPACE toolchain and MATLAB/Simulink.
- Experience with Python test automation, scripting, and data analysis.
- Experience with C/C++, including gtest C++ automation and embedded software verification.
- Experience with CAN/J1939 communication protocols and Vector CANoe/CANalyzer for embedded systems testing and diagnostics.
- Experience with ECU integration, system-level verification, debugging, and root-cause analysis.
- Ability to read electrical schematics, perform hardware setup, and troubleshoot HIL/SIL test environments.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with UDS diagnostics, fault injection, and validation reporting tools.
- Knowledge of software development lifecycle processes, version control, and test automation framework development.
- Model-Based Development experience using MATLAB/Simulink.
- Strong hardware/software integration and electrical troubleshooting experience.
- Experience developing automated embedded validation frameworks and working with production embedded control software.
