Embedded Software Engineer II (Autonomy Systems)
Location: Mossville, IL (Full-Time Onsite)
Schedule: 1st Shift
Duration: 12-Month Contract
Compensation: $52-$55/hr W2 + Medical, Dental, Vision, and 401(k) Match
Compensation may be flexible upward for candidates with highly relevant experience.
About the Role
We're seeking an engineer with experience in robotics, autonomy, vehicle systems, or intelligent machines to support the development of advanced autonomous equipment. This is a systems-focused role working at the vehicle level, helping determine how hardware, electronics, networking, and autonomy technologies come together into a complete solution.
This is not a production software development position. The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex system-level problems, evaluating design tradeoffs, troubleshooting hardware issues, and collaborating across engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions.
What You'll Do
- Contribute to vehicle-level autonomy and robotics system design
- Analyze requirements and break them down into actionable engineering solutions
- Evaluate technical tradeoffs and participate in solution selection
- Support electrical, electronic, and network architecture decisions
- Troubleshoot and resolve system-level issues across hardware and software domains
- Coordinate with development, validation, and hardware teams throughout implementation
- Support commissioning, testing, and validation activities in lab and field environments
- Create design documentation and communicate solutions across cross-functional teams
- Work with engineers and subject matter experts to keep programs moving forward
Work Environment
- Primarily office-based engineering environment
- Exposure to Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing laboratories
- Occasional work at proving grounds, test tracks, or customer sites
- Highly collaborative team focused on solving complex autonomy challenges
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Mechatronics, or related field
- 2+ years of relevant experience (internships may count)
- Experience with robotics, autonomous systems, or automated machines
- Experience troubleshooting electronic or electromechanical systems
- Strong understanding of hardware integration and system-level engineering
- Experience decomposing requirements and developing technical solutions
- Ability to evaluate risks, benefits, and engineering tradeoffs
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Robotics, autonomous vehicle, AGV, mobile equipment, drone, or automation experience
- Experience working with onboard electronics, sensors, controllers, or vehicle systems
- Hardware validation, commissioning, or integration experience
- Linux familiarity
- C++ and/or Python exposure
- CAN, Ethernet, or industrial networking familiarity
- Simulation tool experience
- Functional safety or SOTIF exposure
- Mining, construction, agricultural, manufacturing robotics, or heavy equipment experience
