Role Overview:
Caterpillar’s Cat Robotics / Detect Application team is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop, integrate, and test software features for embedded electronic controls supporting safety-detect machine applications.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop embedded software features using C++ / Linux.
Perform requirements decomposition, software design, development, integration, and testing.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues through triage and debugging.
Develop validation plans and participate in design/code reviews.
Collaborate with global systems, software, machine, and validation teams in an Agile/Sprint environment.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
6–7 years of relevant industry experience; Master’s degree accepted with 5+ years.
Strong C/C++ programming and software design/analysis.
Experience with Git, debuggers, compilers, CTest/GTest.
Knowledge of embedded systems, Linux, CAN, Ethernet/datalinks.
Experience with system-level feature design and specifications.
Strong troubleshooting and concise technical writing skills.
Ability to communicate positions effectively and work within a diverse global team.
Ideal Candidate: Embedded software engineer with hands-on C++/Linux, system-level design, debugging, testing, and CAN/Ethernet experience, preferably from robotics, autonomy, industrial, heavy equipment, or safety-detection environments.
