Responsibilities:

THIS POSITION IS FOR STRATEGIC TECHNOLOGY CONSULTING (STC), AN ARCFIELD COMPANY

Strategic Technology Consulting (STC), an Arcfield Company, is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer with expertise in SOSA, VITA 90/VNX+, and modular open systems infrastructure to support advanced tactical edge systems. This role will focus on designing, developing, and integrating the low-level software architecture that enables true hardware modularity across a multi-vendor embedded hardware ecosystem. The engineer will develop Hardware Abstraction Layers, custom device drivers, chassis management software, backplane routing logic, and embedded interfaces that allow sensors, receivers, and compute modules to be integrated or replaced without requiring major software redesign. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in embedded C/C++, hardware/software integration, device driver development, real-time or embedded operating systems, high-speed data interfaces, and Modular Open Systems Approach principles. This role requires a hands-on engineer who can operate at the intersection of embedded OS development, chassis-level integration, secure data movement, and deterministic system performance, helping ensure tactical edge systems remain modular, interoperable, and scalable across evolving mission needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Architect the VITA 90 Software Backplane: Design and implement the software infrastructure to route high-speed data (PCIe, 10G/40G Ethernet) deterministically across the VITA 90 backplane.
  • Enforce SOSA & MORA Standards: Translate Sensor Open Systems Architecture (SOSA) and Modular Open RF Architecture (MORA) specifications into strict C++ APIs and middleware, acting as the technical gatekeeper for all internal and vendor-supplied module integrations.
  • Develop Modular Interfaces & HALs: Build rigid Hardware Abstraction Layers (HALs) to support rapid, frictionless hardware swaps.
  • Build Chassis Management: Implement VITA 46.11 / IPMI protocols to monitor system health, power budgets, thermal states, and module discovery across the SWaP-constrained VITA 90 chassis.
  • Write Low-Level Drivers: Develop bare-metal, RTOS, and Embedded Linux device drivers for novel VITA 90 cards, managing DMA streams, interrupts, and complex boot sequences.
  • Optimize VITA 49 Data Flows: Architect zero-copy pipelines to encapsulate and route massive amounts of raw I/Q and sensor data using VITA 49 (VRT).
Qualifications:
  • BS 8-10, MS 6-8, PhD 3-5 (Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field).
  • Experience writing production-grade C and modern C++ for embedded systems.
  • Deep architectural knowledge and hands-on implementation experience with SOSA, VITA standards (specifically VITA 90/VNX+, VITA 65, or VITA 49), and building highly modular software interfaces.
  • Proven experience developing Linux Kernel modules, RTOS device drivers, and managing high-speed peripheral interfaces (PCIe, Ethernet, SPI, I2C).
  • Experience with embedded networking, routing protocols, and moving high-bandwidth data (via DMA) across backplanes.
  • Experience with hardware chassis management protocols, including VITA 46.11, IPMI, and baseboard management controllers (BMCs).
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, imposing software order and standardization onto complex, multi-vendor hardware ecosystems.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance.
