About the Role
We are seeking an experienced
Embedded Software Engineer to support the development of next-generation
AR/VR devices and visual perceptual quality systems. This role focuses on developing embedded firmware, building robust test infrastructure, and creating automated and manual validation solutions for computer vision, graphics, and display pipelines.
You will work across the software stack—from low-level firmware and device drivers to application-level rendering and test automation—while collaborating closely with engineering teams to deliver high-quality visual experiences on advanced AR devices.
Responsibilities- Develop and modify C/C++ embedded firmware supporting visual perceptual quality features across computer vision, graphics, and display pipelines.
- Design, implement, and maintain hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test infrastructure for evaluating perceptual quality, latency, accuracy, and motion-to-photon performance.
- Develop and maintain unit, integration, automated, and manual tests, including CI-based validation.
- Debug complex issues across hardware and software stacks, including hardware bring-up, drivers, graphics, display systems, and application-level rendering.
- Develop optimized firmware and software utilities for embedded environments, with consideration for portability across processors and platforms.
- Integrate platform-level features and tailor existing firmware, device drivers, and applications to project requirements.
- Build and maintain CI/CD automation supporting embedded software and hardware validation.
- Develop Python or similar scripting utilities for test automation, diagnostics, and engineering workflows.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to identify issues, develop short-term workarounds, and implement robust long-term solutions.
- Produce clean, maintainable, well-documented, and testable code.
- Document technical designs, tradeoffs, test methodologies, results, and recommendations for engineering stakeholders.
Must Have Qualifications- 5+ years of professional experience developing and testing low-level firmware or systems software for embedded platforms.
- 5+ years of strong C/C++ programming experience, including production firmware and test applications.
- Demonstrated experience with embedded software development and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
- Experience developing CI/CD infrastructure and automation for embedded or hardware-dependent software.
- Experience designing and maintaining reusable test frameworks, test harnesses, or validation infrastructure.
- Strong debugging skills across complex hardware/software stacks.
- Experience with RTOS, multithreaded programming, or real-time applications.
- Experience across the software development lifecycle, including requirements, design, implementation, testing, debugging, and delivery.
- Proficiency with Python or similar scripting languages for test automation and engineering utilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with computer vision, graphics, and display systems.
- Experience developing software for AR/VR or spatial computing technologies.
- Understanding of visual and perceptual quality metrics such as JND, SSIM, flicker thresholds, image quality, and motion-to-photon latency.
- Experience with AR/VR display technologies and their performance constraints.
- Experience with the Android platform, including NDK, JNI, HAL, or other low-level platform integration.
- Familiarity with image/video quality assessment tools or development of custom measurement utilities.
- Experience working with custom silicon or specialized hardware supporting computer vision and graphics workloads.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple technical deliverables, and communicate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.
Typical Day
A typical day may include developing C/C++ firmware, expanding hardware-in-the-loop test infrastructure, writing automated validation tests, debugging issues across firmware and graphics pipelines, and collaborating with engineers to improve perceptual quality measurement and device performance.
The role requires someone who can move comfortably between
low-level embedded development and higher-level test automation, while maintaining a strong focus on software quality, system reliability, and measurable user experience.
