About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Embedded Software Test Engineer to support the verification and validation of embedded software, firmware, and hardware-integrated products for a leading medical technology organization.

In this role, you'll develop comprehensive test strategies, execute manual and automated testing, identify and troubleshoot defects, and collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering and quality teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality products in a regulated environment.

The role is primarily focused on embedded software testing, with some exposure to hardware. While the majority of the work involves validating software, candidates should have a basic understanding of the hardware the software runs on and how the two interact.

Responsibilities

  • Develop test plans, test protocols, and detailed test cases from product requirements.
  • Perform manual and automated testing of embedded software, firmware, and hardware-integrated systems.
  • Execute system-level verification and validation activities.
  • Investigate defects, perform root cause analysis, and verify corrective actions.
  • Document test execution results, defects, and verification outcomes.
  • Prepare clear test reports for engineering, quality, and regulatory review.
  • Utilize command-line tools, logs, and hardware diagnostic methods to validate system performance.
  • Partner with Software, Hardware, Quality, and Project teams to support successful product development and release.
  • Continuously improve testing processes and methodologies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2+ years of embedded software or firmware testing experience.
  • Experience creating:
    • Test plans
    • Test protocols
    • Detailed test cases from system requirements
  • Hands-on experience with manual and automated testing of embedded hardware/software systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting defects, performing root cause analysis, and validating fixes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using command-line tools for testing and debugging.
  • Working knowledge of C++ and/or C#.
  • Experience supporting regulated medical device products.
  • Familiarity with FDA regulations and 510(k) submissions.

Team Environment

  • Frequent collaboration with software, hardware, mechanical, and QA engineering teams.
  • Team members are located in the U.S., Canada, India, and Chile, so candidates must be comfortable working across different time zones.
  • Flexibility is required for meetings that may occasionally occur outside normal working hours.
  • Team Size: 7 members
