Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking experienced Embedded Software Developers to support next‑generation space and aerospace systems, including software‑defined radio (SDR) technologies and FPGA‑based embedded solutions. This role supports Phase 2 of a newly awarded program focused on hardware build-up, algorithm development, and customer-driven prototypes that will transition into full flight units.
Ideal candidates are self-starters with deep embedded programming experience, strong hardware‑software integration skills, and the ability to contribute across rapid prototyping, open‑architecture frameworks, and future flight‑ready systems.
This role is hybrid (3 days a week) in Kent, WA.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop embedded software for highly embedded systems, including FPGA‑based architectures.
- Support creation of updated system prototypes leading to eventual flight unit builds.
- Implement and update algorithms within software‑defined radio systems destined for satellite platforms.
- Build and maintain Board Support Packages (BSPs) for FPGA hardware.
- Ensure reliable software execution on target processors and contribute to open‑architecture frameworks.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to integrate hardware, algorithms, and controls.
- Participate in lab demonstrations, field tests, and transition to aircraft or satellite integration phases.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years embedded programming experience using C, C++, Linux and/or PetaLinux.
- Hands-on experience with hardware-software integration.
- Experience implementing embedded software onto FPGA platforms or interfacing closely with FPGA-based systems.
- Ability to work onsite 3 days/week in a secure environment.
- TS/SCI with eligibility to obtain SAP.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with software-defined radio (SDR) systems and processor-level radio software.
- Familiarity with FPGA toolchains, Verilog/VxWorks, Board Support Package development, and open‑architecture environments.
- Experience in aerospace, flight vehicles, satellite systems, or electro-optical/laser sensor programs.
- Knowledge of Linux, PetaLinux, and modern embedded toolchains.
- Exposure to SCI, SAP, or SAR environments.
- Ability and desire to remain through future phases: 9‑month code development cycle system demo flight build.
Education & Experience
- Bachelors degree in engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, or a related technical field and 9+ years experience.
- Masters degree and 7+ years experience.
- PhD and 4+ years experience.
- (ABET accreditation preferred but not required.)
Compensation: $160,000- $165,000 (based on experience)
