Embedded Test Engineer

Location: Troy, Michigan (Hybrid, 60/40 or 70/30 split)
Industry: Dept. of Defense
Duration: 6-month contract
Pay:
Up to $53/hr
Clearance: Ability to obtain Secret clearance

Job Summary: Seeking an Embedded Test Engineer to support a large-scale software and integration development effort within the defense sector. This role will work closely with the Test Lead to support testing activities, validation efforts, and embedded system integration in a collaborative engineering environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain test plans, test procedures, test descriptions, reports, and requirements documentation
  • Develop and maintain automated testing utilities and frameworks
  • Execute comprehensive test suites for desktop applications across multiple operating systems
  • Perform system-level testing to validate embedded firmware functionality, stability, and performance under real-world constraints
  • Validate integration between desktop software applications and embedded edge devices
  • Identify, document, and track software defects while supporting root cause analysis (RCA) activities
  • Collaborate with software developers, test engineers, and project managers throughout the development lifecycle
  • Support Agile/Scrum development and sprint-based testing activities

Qualifications:
  • BS Degree in Engineering or related field
  • 2+ years of professional software testing experience with embedded applications
  • Proficiency in C and C++ (C++11/14/17 strongly preferred)
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and sprint-based software development
  • Experience testing or developing embedded systems in resource-constrained and RTOS environments preferred
  • Understanding of hardware/software interfaces and low-level C++ development
  • Familiarity with communication protocols including UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, USB, Ethernet, and Bluetooth
  • Experience working within Linux environments including shell scripting and application builds
  • Ability to obtain Secret Clearance required
  • CAC card preferred
