Job Summary

Under the direction of the ED Executive Director/VP Emergency Services and ED Manager II/Unit Directors, the ED Business Administrative Manager is responsible for budget planning and allocation for equipment and technology, and material management, for the Emergency Department, IAC, and other cost center groups managed by the VP of Emergency Services.

The incumbent will oversee the 24/7 operations of the ED's HUSC team. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the Emergency Department's environment of care meets the standards of the various regulatory groups who have oversight of its operations. The incumbent will have oversight of the Emergency Department's scheduling operations.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Associate's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
  • At least three (3) years of recent supervisor/management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience partnering and providing consultation to leadership and employees.
  • Experience in supervising staff.
  • Experience working in a health care institution or similar complex organization/industry.
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills to evaluate program/staff needs, problem, train other staff.
  • Ability to research, collect, analyze and interpret data from a variety of sources.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems/issues.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the internet to locate information, evaluate products, provide cost comparisons and download data. Ability to work independently, accurately and quickly on multiple assignments, with multiple deadlines, maintaining productivity and flexibility.
  • Knowledge and understanding of as well as the ability to interpret local, state and federal regulations (i.e., Joint Commission, Title XXII, CalOSHA, State Department of Health, State Fire Marshall and Infection Control Standards).
  • Must possess skills and abilities to recognize facility malfunctions or unsafe practices and have demonstrated ability to effectively communicate department needs.
  • Expert knowledge of standard procurement procedures and comprehensive knowledge of the complex nature of medical supplies and equipment and their intended use.
  • Ability to resolve problems with the least negative impact.
  • Effective listening skills with ability to collect information and understand what the speaker is conveying.
  • Must possess willingness to learn new technology with an ability to quickly learn required applications to accomplish duties.
  • Strong presentation and training skills.
  • Exceptional analytical, administrative and interpersonal problem-solving skills.
  • Must have interpersonal skills to facilitate communication and work of others. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with ability to write clear and concise emails, memoranda, project proposals, technical reports, policies and procedures, lead discussions, maintain appropriate and courteous interdepartmental communication, present information in a logical, concise and sequential order and deliver effective presentations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and team management skills to work collaboratively with sensitivity and acceptance of individual differences in adverse work force.
  • Demonstrated ability to display respect and maintain the confidentiality of all patients, physicians, and hospital-related information. Knowledge of personnel administration, including recruitment, hiring, training, development, coaching, evaluation, and disciplinary action.
  • Knowledge of management/leadership principles and practices. Computer skills using office software, including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, graphics, e-mail, calendaring.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and good listening skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and conflict management.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to courteous, sincere and sensitive customer service. Demonstrate a commitment to quality-based outcome and excellence.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures and their interpretation and enforcement.

  • Physical ability to exert a force up to 25 pounds to push/pull wheeled equipment on smooth surfaces.
  • Must have the ability and fine motor dexterity to operate equipment, computer, keyboard, and mouse.

  • Write text that effectively communicates ideas, facts, and/or information to an audience appropriate for the assignment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years with related experience in a health care setting with progressive responsibility in fiscal and personnel management.
  • Knowledge of healthcare field; experience in hospital and emergency department environment.

Department Overview

Emergency Medicine provide Level 1 adult and pediatric trauma care for more than 33 of California's 58 counties. UC Davis Health System is home to state-of-the-art emergency care for children. Our Pediatric Emergency Department features the only Level 1 pediatric trauma center in inland Northern California (verified by the American College of

Surgeons). From Portland to Fresno, from outside the Bay Area to Reno, no other hospital in inland Northern California has a Level 1 adult and pediatric trauma center servicing approximately 70,000 patients each year.

The Department of Emergency Medicine at UC Davis provides a dedicated team of physicians, nurses, 42 residents, and a total of 26 specialists of every medical and surgical specialty to treat critically ill and injured adults and children. Our team provides an extraordinary level of knowledge, skill and compassion to every patient we serve at our Level 1 Surgery and Emergency Services Pavilion. The Emergency Department is prepared and equipped to provide comprehensive and efficient emergency care to patients in need of medical and surgical specialty physicians to treat critical and acute illnesses and injuries 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
