Galveston County Health District is seeking an experienced and motivated Emergency Management Coordinator to lead the planning, coordination, and implementation of emergency preparedness and response efforts that protect the health and safety of our community. This position plays a key role in preparing Galveston County for emergencies, disasters, and public health incidents by coordinating planning efforts, leading emergency preparedness training and exercises, and collaborating with local, state, and federal partners. What You'll Do:
Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive emergency management plans using an all-hazards approach
Coordinate emergency preparedness activities with internal departments and community partners
Plan, facilitate, and evaluate tabletop, functional, and full-scale emergency preparedness exercises
Coordinate disaster response efforts and support the Health District's Emergency Operations Plan
Monitor emergencies affecting Galveston County and provide leadership with timely situation updates and recommendations
Develop and deliver emergency preparedness training for employees, volunteers, and community partners
Coordinate emergency response volunteer programs and preparedness workgroups
Foster collaborative relationships with local, state, and federal agencies, healthcare organizations, educational institutions, and community partners
Conduct after-action reviews and implement continuous improvement initiatives
Manage emergency preparedness inventories, grants, contracts, and required reporting
Represent the Health District at emergency management meetings, exercises, and within the County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during emergencies
Respond to public health emergencies and disaster-related activities as needed
Perform other duties as assigned
What We're Looking For:
Bachelor's degree in emergency management or a related field OR five (5) years of experience in local emergency management preparedness and response
Minimum of five (5) years of experience utilizing the National Incident Command System (ICS) during real-world emergencies or disasters
Minimum of five (5) years of experience coordinating volunteers during emergency response operations
Experience developing and conducting emergency preparedness exercises and training programs
Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal emergency management principles and practices
Excellent communication, public speaking, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders and community partners
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
Ability to exercise sound judgment, work independently, and manage multiple priorities
Must maintain 24/7 accessibility for emergencies unless prior arrangements are made with the supervisor
Must possess reliable transportation and have a satisfactory driving record
Willingness to work evenings, weekends, overtime, and extended hours during emergencies or disasters
Must meet immunization, background check, drug/alcohol screening, and ICS training requirements
