Job Summary
The Emergency Management Intern supports the City of Baytowns Office of Emergency Management (OEM) in planning, coordination, and operational preparedness efforts. This position provides hands-on experience in emergency management through involvement in real-world projects, including planning document updates, resource tracking, data management, and training exercises.
The intern will work collaboratively with City departments and external partners to support preparedness initiatives, enhance coordination, and ensure critical information is accurate and accessible for decision-making during emergencies and planned events. This position is expected to start in August.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to quickly learn new systems and tools; strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders; strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment; ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion; knowledge of basic emergency management principles and practices is preferred; ability to research, analyze, and organize data effectively with strong attention to detail and accuracy; ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team; strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills; and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and operational needs.

Attendance is an essential function of this position. The City reserves the right to require an employee in this position to work more than 40 hours a week. This position provides services or performs duties for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations. These may include services or duties different from those performed in the usual course and scope of the job. In the event of an evacuation, the incumbent in this position may be required to remain to perform needed services.
