About the Position

This is a time-limited position. The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is recruiting for a Time-Limited and Non-State Service Position as an Emergency Management Officer II - State Warning Point Officer within the Office of Response. The State Warning Point Officer serves as a critical member of the state's emergency management operations, providing continuous monitoring, situational awareness, and information sharing to ensure a timely and coordinated response to all hazards. This position operates as the "eyes and ears" of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during steady-state and incident operations, ensuring that accurate, actionable information is communicated to state leadership, partner agencies, and local jurisdictions. This position requires meeting the requirements for a security clearance and the ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. - Key Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Monitoring, analyzing, and verifying information from multiple sources, including local jurisdictions, state agencies, federal partners, the private sector, media, and intelligence feeds. • Maintaining situational awareness and producing timely reports, such as daily situation reports (SitReps), spot reports, and incident summaries. • Serving as the initial point of contact for incident notifications and requests for state assistance. • Providing real-time information updates to leadership and partner agencies, ensuring accurate dissemination through established channels. • Tracking emerging threats such as severe weather, hazardous materials releases, cyber incidents, and public safety events. • Operating communications equipment, including radio networks, web-based alerting systems, and incident management platforms (e.g., WebEOC). • Supporting EOC activations by gathering, validating, and distributing operational information. • Assisting with the coordination of warning systems such as IPAWS (Integrated Public Alert & Warning System), EAS (Emergency Alert System), and Wireless Emergency Alerts, as directed. • Maintaining accurate logs and records of significant events and operational decisions. • Participating in training and exercises to maintain proficiency and readiness -The duties and responsibilities of this position may require the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: • Knowledge of emergency management principles, EOC operations, and incident management processes. • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and concisely under pressure. • Proficiency with situational awareness platforms, GIS mapping tools, and communication technologies. • Ability to evaluate large amounts of data, recognize critical information, and escalate appropriately. • Familiarity with the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS). • Completion of FEMA Independent Study courses (IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, IS-800) within probationary period. • Effective teamwork, multitasking, and decision-making skills in a fast-paced operational environment. • Analytical skills to assess incoming information and determine appropriate response actions. - This position is with the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), and ALL MEMA positions can be called back to work outside the standard work schedule. A drug screen and background check may be required for hires and promotions. Additionally, we may conduct a credit check for individuals responsible for financial, human resources, and information technology matters. What youll need to be Successful

The incumbent must be a self-starter and be able to work independently with or without supervision. Multi-tasking skills are essential to balance primary and additional duty assignments and crisis management situations. Advanced skills with various computer programs, including Microsoft Office Suite, online programs, and the interface of multiple programs; and advanced comprehension, oral and written communication skills, and able to work with others. Possess the ability to research and analyze internet data sources for inclusion in products, briefings, and common operating picture.

Preferred Qualifications

This position typically requires a Bachelors degree and 1-2 years of experience, or graduation from high school or equivalent and 2-5 years of experience. Agency preferred Qualifications: • High school diploma or GED required; or an associate or bachelor's degree in Emergency Management, Homeland Security, Public Safety, or related field. • Two (2) years of experience in emergency management, intelligence analysis, dispatch, or operations center environment.

In accordance with federal law, all employees serving in the armed forces or the military reserves are entitled to 15 days per year for military training.
