Description:

Purpose:

Responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing programs that prepare hospitals for natural and human-made disasters. This role focuses on mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery efforts to ensure safety, minimize risks, and maintain continuity of operations.
What you will do:

Planning & Preparedness

  • Develop, update, and maintain emergency management plans, including evacuation, continuity of operations (COOP), and disaster recovery plans
  • Conduct hazard vulnerability assessments and risk analyses
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external agencies to ensure coordinated preparedness efforts
  • Design and implement emergency response protocols and procedures

Training & Exercises

  • Develop and deliver training programs on emergency response and preparedness
  • Coordinate drills and simulation exercises (e.g., tabletop, functional, full-scale exercises)
  • Evaluate exercise outcomes and implement improvements

Response Coordination

  • Support incident response operations during emergencies
  • Serve in a role within the Incident Command System (ICS) structure
  • Coordinate communication between stakeholders, first responders, and leadership
  • Monitor situations and provide timely updates and recommendations

Recovery & Continuity

  • Assist in post-incident recovery efforts and damage assessments
  • Support business continuity and disaster recovery initiatives
  • Document lessons learned and update plans accordingly

Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local emergency management regulations (e.g., FEMA, DHS, OSHA)
  • Maintain documentation, reports, and records related to emergency programs
  • Apply for and manage grants related to emergency preparedness

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Public Administration, Homeland Security, or related field
  • 3–5+ years of experience in emergency management or disaster response
  • Knowledge of FEMA frameworks, NIMS (National Incident Management System), and ICS
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond to emergencies outside normal hours

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) or Associate Emergency Manager (AEM)
  • Experience with business continuity planning
  • Familiarity with GIS or emergency management software systems
  • Experience working with government agencies or healthcare systems
