What Success Looks Like In This Job

Position Summary:

  • Support emergency management operations to reduce the risk of injury, loss of life, property damage, and environmental impacts resulting from natural or human-caused incidents.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness, response, recovery, mitigation, and coordination efforts, including emergency operations support, severe weather coordination, and disaster recovery activities.
  • Help maintain emergency management programs through planning, damage assessment, shelter and donations management, and interagency coordination.

Examples of Duties for Success

Essential Duties and Responsibilites:

  • Assist Emergency Management Coordinators with planning, organizing, training, equipping, and exercising emergency management programs and projects.
  • Participate in emergency management trainings, workshops, conferences, and regional committee meetings to maintain operational readiness and professional development.
  • Review, revise, and maintain emergency management plans, procedures, and related documentation.
  • Support community preparedness initiatives and public outreach events to promote emergency awareness and resilience.
  • Serve in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during disaster incidents and provide operational support during emergency response activities.
  • Provide coverage and assistance to Emergency Management Coordinators as needed and perform additional assigned duties related to emergency management operations.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications for Success

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's degree or a minimum of sixty (60) semester hours in emergency management, public administration, or a related field.
  • Coursework or training related to emergency preparedness, disaster response, or public safety principles preferred.

Experience:

  • Experience supporting emergency management, public safety, or incident response operations preferred.
  • Experience coordinating projects, training activities, or community outreach initiatives preferred.
  • Experience working within an Incident Command System (ICS) or Emergency Operations Center (EOC) environment preferred.

Licenses/Certificates:

  • Valid Colorado Driver's License.
  • Completion of EMPG training requirements within one (1) year of hire.

  • Will include a comprehensive background investigation by specialized detectives within the Adams County Sheriff's Office.
