Essential Job Functions
- Applies basic life support skills to triage, rescue, treat, and transport injured or ill persons
- Responds to medical emergencies
- Provides patient care functions
- Directs medical activities at multiple patient scenes or mass casualty incidents until relieved by qualified supervisor; performs triage, coordinates medical transportation of the sick and injured
- Protects property from water and smoke
- Responds to fire alarms and other emergency calls
- Leads out hose line, selects and operates hose nozzle, depending on type of fire, and directs stream of water or chemicals onto fire
- Other related duties, as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One (1) year of experience as an EMT Basic
Licenses/Certifications:
- Licensed Emergency Medical Technician
- Licensed Firefighter
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the appropriate scope of care as defined by federal, state, and local regulatory agencies, and Alcorn State University EMS policies and procedures
- Knowledge of stress response and methods to ensure personal well being
- Knowledge of body substance isolation
- Excellent communication skills, verbal, written and interpersonal
- Ability to effectively deal with trauma and serious illness in emergency situations
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to exercise sound independent judgment
- Ability to anticipate/identify problems, taking initiative to prevent/correct them
