Emergency Medical Technician (PRN) *AMMENDED*

Job Summary:

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) PRN provides timely, high-quality emergency medical care and transportation for patients in a variety of setting. This role responds to emergency, assesses patient conditions, administers basic life support (BLS) interventions, and safely transports patients to appropriate medical facilities. The EMT PRN follows established protocols, maintains equipment and supplies, and ensures accurate, thorough documentation of all patient care activities.

Job Duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide emergency medical services to eligible individuals in accordance with the self‑governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and the United States under the Indian Self‑Determination and Education Assistance Act.
• Deliver patient care consistent with Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) scope of practice and Cherokee Nation Ambulance Services protocols.
• Perform EMT‑level assessments of patients experiencing trauma, medical illness, or other emergent conditions.
• Respond to emergency and non‑emergency calls; operate the ambulance safely; and transport patients to medical facilities or between healthcare locations.
• Operate and maintain medical equipment as authorized by EMT protocols, policies, and procedures.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with the Communications Center, healthcare facilities, and other emergency response agencies during all phases of patient care.
• Ensure the ambulance is clean, stocked, and operational by performing regular equipment checks, restocking supplies, and completing routine vehicle upkeep.
• Complete accurate and timely documentation of all patient care activities in accordance with Cherokee Nation EMS policies and procedures.
• Maintain compliance with all state, tribal, and federal regulations governing patient privacy, safety, security, and the handling of health records in any format.
• Participate in ongoing training, drills, and continuing education to maintain required certifications and clinical competencies.
• Assist in quality improvement initiatives and reporting as required by EMS leadership. Collaborate effectively with team members to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality service delivery.
• Follow all safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during patient care and transport.
• Performs other duties, tasks, and services consistent with this position as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk. The employee frequently is required to stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
• Must possess a valid driver’s license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
• Must possess and maintain EMT License issued by the Oklahoma State Department of Health.
• Must possess and maintain throughout employment, American Heart Association certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), and or American Red Cross certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.
• Must keep all knowledge and skills current through specific continued education as required by Oklahoma State Department of Health/EMS Division for renewing licensure.
• Educated on and compliant with HIPAA regulations and maintains strict confidentiality of patient information.
