Koch Methanol is seeking a contribution-motivated Emergency Response Coordinator (ER Coordinator) to join our team in St. James, LA. The ER Coordinator works closely with our site Operations team - the emergency response team is comprised of full-time operators who are trained for fire response; and volunteers for Rescue and Medical teams.

Our Team

The Emergency Response Coordinator leads and continuously improves the site‑wide Emergency Response program at the St. James facility, ensuring readiness to safely respond to fires, medical emergencies, hazardous material releases, severe weather, and other emergency events. This role partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, and EHS leadership to embed emergency preparedness into daily operations, projects, and risk mitigation efforts, while protecting employees, the surrounding community, and company assets.

This role works a 9/80 (Monday-Thurs, every other Friday) schedule with night and weekend coverage based on demand.

What You Will Do

  • Own and continuously improve the site Emergency Response Management System, including compliance, audits, and key performance metrics.
  • Lead and develop the Emergency Response Team (ERT), ensuring readiness across fire, HAZMAT, rescue, and medical response through training and drills.
  • Own Incident Command System (ICS) and Emergency Operations Center (EOC) readiness, including training, exercises, and emergency execution.
  • Deliver and oversee industrial emergency response training, including fire tactics, HAZMAT, rescue operations, medical response, and equipment use.
  • Ensure reliability, inspection, and readiness of fire protection systems, emergency response equipment, and alarm/notification systems.
  • Integrate emergency preparedness into site operations, adverse weather planning, and capital projects through cross‑functional partnership.
  • Leverage new technologies and innovative approaches to modernize emergency services within an industrial setting.
  • Participate in emergency response callouts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required during emergency situations.
  • Willing and able to travel up to 10% for training as needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to push/carry up to 100 lbs
  • Ability to grip up to 20 lbs
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders and work at heights exceeding 100 ft
  • Ability to work outdoors in various types of weather
  • Ability to be medically approved to participate in the HAZMAT & Fire Training programs

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Previous emergency response experience in a chemical manufacturing, refining, or comparable high‑hazard industrial environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of emergency response regulations and standards, including OSHA, NFPA, and U.S. Department of Homeland Security requirements.
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), as required by site or regulatory standards.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelor of Science in fire protection engineering or emergency management
  • At least 5 years of emergency response experience within the chemical or refining industry
  • Experience leading safety/emergency training and drills with internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience participating in or supporting an Incident Command System (ICS) during emergency events
  • Previous experience leading in mutual-aid or municipal response organizations, including supervisory or team leadership experience
  • Certifications such as Licensed Paramedic, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT or EMT-P), Fire Instructor (NFPA 1041), Live Fire Instructor (NFPA 1403), or similar
