The Department of Emergency Medicine (EM) at Cooper University Health Care is a dynamic clinical department that provides high quality patient-centric emergency care to our community.   As part of CUES (Center for Emergent and Urgent Services) for Cooper, we have an expansive clinical, educational, and research-based focus.  Our education team trains 39 EM residents, 2 EMS fellows, one education fellow and one ultrasound fellow in addition to teaching a highly rated required 4^th year clerkship for every Cooper Medical School of Rowan University student.  The service lines have expanded to include: 3 urgent care sites, pediatric EM, EMS, toxicology, ultrasound, collaboration with addiction medicine/pain management, high quality research/grants, geriatric EM and disaster medicine.  

MD or DO with completion of residency- the applicant must have completed an ACGME accredited EM residency program and be board eligible/board certified in EM for the clinical part of this position.

Responsibilities:

1. Clinical Care

• Provide comprehensive emergency medical care to patients across diverse populations and acuity levels.
• Clinical shifts availability areovernight shifts only
• Perform rapid assessment, diagnosis, and management of acute illnesses and injuries.
• Ensure adherence to clinical protocols, patient safety standards, and evidence-based practices.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated, patient-centered care.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant medical documentation in accordance with institutional, state, and federal regulations.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient outcomes, throughput, and safety.

2. Teaching and Education

• Educate and mentor medical students, residents, and other healthcare learners in the clinical environment.
• Supervise trainees in patient care activities, ensuring appropriate oversight and progressive autonomy.
• Provide timely, constructive feedback and formal evaluations of trainee performance.
• Promote a culture of inquiry, professionalism, and lifelong learning.

3. Administrative and Academic Responsibilities

• Support accreditation standards (e.g., ACGME, LCME) by contributing to compliance, documentation, and program evaluation.
• Engage in quality improvement, patient safety, and performance improvement initiatives.
• Maintain required certifications, licensure, and credentialing in good standing.
• Collaborate with clinical leadership to optimize patient flow, resource utilization, and operational efficiency.
• Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and hospital policies.
• Serve as a clinical resource for strategic initiatives impacting emergency and acute care services.
