Make a Difference When It Matters Most.

At Emergency Veterinary Care Centers (EVCC), we show up for pets and the people who love them on some of their hardest days.

If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy working as part of a team, and want to make a meaningful impact every shift — this could be your place.

Who We Are

Emergency Veterinary Care Centers was created by veterinarians, for veterinarians—and for the communities they serve. Founded by 36 local general practice veterinarians (many of whom are still actively involved today), EVCC was built to support the veterinary community by providing trusted emergency-only care when primary care veterinarians are closed.

Currently, EVCC Saginaw is open from Friday at 7PM through Monday at 830AM including all holidays that occur during this timeframe. Our #1 goal is to expand these hours to provide quality care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, ensuring your pet always has access to lifesaving treatment— weekend or not.

Our Saginaw location is proud to provide compassionate emergency care for pets and the people who love them. Every shift, our team comes together to deliver lifesaving medicine while supporting one another through the fast pace and unpredictability of emergency veterinary care.

But what truly defines EVCC isn't just what we do—it's how we do it.

WE

  • Lead with compassion
  • Respect and elevate our technicians
  • Support each other without ego
  • Communicate openly and professionally
  • Recognize that emergency medicine is demanding — and take care of our team because of it

What Life Is Like at EVCC

We genuinely care about whoever walks through our doors — whether it's a critical patient, an anxious pet parent, or a teammate who needs support during a tough shift.

Emergency medicine is intense. It's emotional. It's unpredictable.

But it's also deeply meaningful.

You won't be "just an assistant" here. Your assessment skills, instincts, and voice matter. Our doctors value collaboration. Our leadership team listens. Growth is encouraged, not gatekept.

Your Role as an Experienced Veterinary Assistant (Day Shift)

As a Veterinary Assistant at our Mishawaka location, you'll be a crucial part of our emergency team. You'll support veterinary technicians and veterinarians by assisting with patient care, maintaining hospital cleanliness, and ensuring the hospital is stocked and ready for every emergency. This role would primarily focus on our out-patients.

You'll interact with pets and clients directly, creating positive experiences even during stressful situations, and help ensure every shift runs smoothly.

What You'll Do

  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with outpatient appointments, examinations, and patient restraint
  • Prepare exam rooms and treatment areas for appointments, ensuring all equipment and supplies are clean, organized, and ready for use
  • Obtain patient histories, record vital signs, and accurately document information in the medical record as directed
  • Collect and prepare laboratory samples, perform in-house diagnostic testing, and assist with outpatient procedures
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments under the direction of the veterinarian and within scope of practice
  • Educate clients on preventive care, medications, discharge instructions, and follow-up appointments
  • Monitor patient comfort during visits and promptly communicate any concerns or changes to the medical team
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms, treatment areas, and medical equipment in accordance with hospital protocols
  • Restock medical supplies and assist with inventory management
  • Adhere to all safety, infection control, and patient care standards
  • Participate in team meetings, continuing education, and hospital quality improvement initiatives
  • Deliver compassionate, professional care while creating a positive experience for every patient and client

This role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, compassion, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced outpatient veterinary environment.

Who Thrives Here

What You'll Need:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience as a veterinary assistant or in animal care (kennel, shelter, pet boarding, etc.) preferred
  • Ability to safely and compassionately handle animals of all sizes and temperaments
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Dependable, detail-oriented, and able to follow instructions
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, emergency environment
  • Availability for evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and remain on your feet for extended periods

How We Invest In You

We believe people do their best work when they feel valued and supported.

WE OFFER

  • Competitive compensation (depending on experience) including base and 401K match
  • Comprehensive health and wellness benefits that start on day one
