Employee Assistance Consultant, Human Resources

The University of Virginia's Faculty and Employee Assistance Program (FEAP) provides confidential, professional employee assistance services that support the well-being of UVA faculty and staff, employees of community partners, and their families.

The Employee Assistance Consultant I is an entry-level clinical role providing intake and assessment, short-term counseling, consultation, and referral services. Working with the FEAP team and under close supervision, this position supports employees navigating personal, behavioral health, and workplace concerns while contributing to outreach and other employee well-being initiatives.

This role is well suited for a recent graduate or early-career behavioral health professional looking to build experience in an employee assistance and workplace behavioral health setting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver intake, assessment, short-term counseling, and referral services under supervision.
• Participate in case consultation and complete clinical documentation.
• Assist with coverage of intake and scheduling processes as assigned.
• Support FEAP education, outreach, and promotional events.
• Participate in FEAP's after-hours on-call rotation following training.
• Uphold professional, ethical, and organizational standards in all work.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in counseling, social work, psychology, human services, behavioral health, or a related field. Additional experience in mental health counseling, social work or related field is preferred.
• Experience (e.g., during internship or practicum) conducting intake assessments, providing short-term counseling, and making referrals in a behavioral health setting.
• Basic knowledge of clinical documentation standards and confidentiality requirements (e.g., HIPAA).
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotation after adequate training.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous internship or professional experience in an Employee Assistance Program, behavioral health, or workplace behavioral health setting.
• Experience or interest in employee well-being, outreach, health promotion, workplace wellness, critical incident response, or workplace training.
• Training or familiarity with brief, solution-focused counseling models.

Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to work with diverse individuals and groups.
• Strong organization, time management, and documentation skills.
• Comfort balancing clinical and operational responsibilities.
• Willingness to learn and contribute in a team-based environment.

Additional Information:

• (Hybrid): Position requires minimum two onsite days per week with flexibility to report to worksites within UVA and in the community as required.
• Participation in after-hours on-call rotation is required (with support during onboarding).

Anticipated Hiring range: $58,000 - $65,000

This is an exempt-level, benefited position. Learn more about UVA benefits.  This is a restricted position, which is dependent on funding and is contingent upon funding availability.

This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and is eligible for a hybrid schedule in accordance with UVA's remote work guidelines.
