Recruiting Agency: TechStaffers

About the Opportunity

TechStaffers is conducting a confidential search on behalf of a well-established and highly respected California-based law firm that continues to expand its Employment Law practice.

The firm is seeking an experienced Employment Law Partner with 10+ years of employment law defense experience to join its growing team. This role is ideal for a senior attorney with deep expertise in school district and public entity defense, who enjoys a strategic mix of litigation, compliance counseling, and advisory work.

This fully remote role (California-based) offers meaningful autonomy, a reasonable billable hour expectation, and a manageable caseload-providing long-term stability without the demands of a traditional large-firm environment.

Key Responsibilities

Litigation Defense & Risk Management

  • Defend school districts in employment-related matters, including wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage/hour, and PAGA claims.

  • Represent clients in proceedings before administrative agencies such as the EEOC, labor boards, and state education authorities.

  • Manage all phases of litigation, including discovery, motion practice, and settlement negotiations, with a focus on public-sector employment law.

Strategic Counsel & Advisory Services

  • Advise school boards, superintendents, and HR leadership on compliance with Title IX, ADA, FMLA, and California employment laws.

  • Develop proactive legal strategies related to employee discipline, hiring practices, labor disputes, and risk mitigation.

  • Provide guidance on union relations, collective bargaining agreements, and teacher tenure matters.

Policy Development & Compliance

  • Draft, review, and update employment policies, handbooks, and compliance documentation.

  • Conduct employment law compliance reviews and wage/hour audits.

  • Ensure alignment with federal, state, and education-specific employment regulations.

Training & Client Education

  • Deliver training programs for administrators and HR professionals on employment law compliance and best practices.

  • Lead workshops on anti-discrimination, harassment prevention, and managing unionized educational workforces.

  • Billable Hours: 1,150 annually.

  • Caseload: Approximately 15–25 active matters.
