Position Summary Information

Be a Tar Heel!

This Employment Services professional position is located in the Triad area of North Carolina. Our main offices are located at 925 Revolution Mill Drive, Greensboro, though most of our work is performed in the community in Forsyth, Davie, Davidson, Guilford and surrounding counties. We provide employment related services to roughly 180 individuals on the autism spectrum in competitive employment that are spread throughout a 7-county region.

The candidate selected for this position will work with the autism population, employers, families, and the rest of our dedicated team to help people realize their career goals. Join us and be a member of one of the best, if not the best, autism specific employment program in the world. Due to the work schedules of our clients, this position does require some evening and weekend work.

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

Our mission is to improve the health and well-being of North Carolinians and others whom we serve. We accomplish this by providing leadership and excellence in the interrelated areas of patient care, education and research.

Patient care: We promote health and provide superb clinical care while maintaining our strong tradition of reaching underserved populations and reducing health disparities across North Carolina and beyond.

Education: We prepare tomorrow's healthcare professionals and biomedical researchers from all backgrounds by facilitating learning within innovative and integrated curricula and team-oriented interprofessional education to ensure a highly skilled workforce.

Research: We develop and support a rich array of outstanding health sciences research programs, centers and resources. We provide infrastructure and opportunities for collaboration among disciplines throughout and beyond our university to support outstanding research. We foster programs in the areas of basic, translational, mechanistic and population research.

Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to assist individuals who have an autism spectrum diagnosis to meet employment needs. This position further involves coordination of responsibilities involving planning program services/activities, monitoring, evaluating, and modifying program activities; and developing resources.

As part of the TEACCH and Employment Services philosophy, all staff members including administrative staff members will work directly with adults with autism as part of their job. This position is not center based, and all services are provided in the community. We are required to travel great distances, sometimes at a moment's notice. Individuals in this position are required to work alone in the community providing support to autistic adults.

In addition to working with autistic adults, we work closely with the other support systems of the individual. This includes but is not limited to, additional family members, employers, other provider agencies, medical staff, residential providers, and local mental health agencies and other providers of funding for the services provided by TEACCH Employment Services. As a result, members of the staff will display excellent communication skills to maintain positive relationships with the community at large.

This position provides employment supports for approximately 25 people on the autism spectrum, who are already in stable job placements, but who are spread out over a large geographical area. They set their own schedules to meet client needs and interface with many different agencies and companies. They need to work quickly to solve problems with minimal supervision, as they work more independently than entry-level Human Services Program Support Technicians, but still operate under direct supervision for more complicated issues. Their case load remains mostly stable with a few changes throughout the year.
