Here's the Role:
Are you a Linux and Ansible pro who loves the high stakes of real-time systems? LCRA is looking for a Senior Application Engineer to join our Advanced Application Software team, where you’ll design, develop, and configure the critical EMS analytical tools used to dispatch our transmission grid. You’ll be the go-to professional for validating SCADA applications, handling real-time databases, and monitoring telemetry and communication protocols to ensure everything stays in sync. When challenges arise, you’ll dive into critically important troubleshooting and system restoration to keep operations running smoothly, all while working with a collaborative team dedicated to problem-solving and the overall growth of LCRA.
How You’ll Contribute:
- Serves as a key contributor in managing the system incidents, problems and anomalies including recognition, analysis and resolution. Performs root cause analysis, controls change management and uses effective communication practices.
- Updates various systems with security, operating system, and application patches. Analyzes anti-virus configurations and performs periodic vulnerability scans.
- Monitors real-time system conditions and supports investigations of critical events. Serves in a senior technical role during complex Realtime system events and performs thorough systems analysis. Leads software technology projects pertaining to the Realtime system and its support systems and provides consultative expertise on the EMS and related applications.
How You’re Qualified:
- For GMS Applications Engineers:
- Nine or more years of experience in developing, supporting and troubleshooting SCADA, ICCP, GMS (AGC/ECA etc.) applications or other relevant experience.
- A degree(s) in electrical engineering, computer science, information technology, or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.
- For EMS Applications Engineers:
- Nine or more years of experience in developing, supporting and troubleshooting SCADA, ICCP, EMS applications or other relevant experience.
- A degree(s) in electrical engineering, computer science, information technology, or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.
How You’ll Stand Out:
- Over 7 years of experience in RHEL/CentOS administration and engineering, backed by RHCE or Red Hat Certified Specialist in Ansible Automation credentials.
- Proven expertise in 24x7 real-time operations, control systems, and EMS/SCADA software tools within Command & Control or NOC environments where uptime is the primary indictor.
- Expert-level proficiency in Ansible (AWX/Tower) for large-scale configuration management, patch orchestration, and infrastructure automation.
- Deep understanding of NERC CIP (or similar critical infrastructure regulations), Red Hat security modules, STIG hardening, and vulnerability remediation.
- Extensive experience in Oracle/SQL database management alongside proficiency in Shell scripting (Bash), Python, and version control (Git).
- Demonstrated skill in developing custom software code specifically designed for high-performance, real-time applications.
