The function of an EMS Operation Specialist is to support the operations in responding for critical calls and nonemergent situations in both an assigned medic station or as a stand-alone Medic in a chase vehicle. They will act as an assistant supervisor in conjunction with the Operations Supervisor and can act in the duties of the Supervisor in their absence. The EMS Operations Specialist will also provide mentoring and guidance by providing Field Training to new Paramedics, keep seasoned Paramedics current and provide refresher and remedial training as needed; and ensure all Quality Assurance Measure are met. In addition to carrying out the routine duties of a paramedic, the EMS Operations Specialist will also serve as a leader on the EMS team.

Required Qualifications:
Possess at least three (3) years of experience as a Lead Paramedic and Preceptor (Exclusion made for Fleet Management)
Posses and maintain DOT medical requirements in compliance with New Mexico PRC/DOT
New Mexico Paramedic License (Exclusion made for Fleet Management)
ACLS, PALS (Exclusion made for Fleet Management)
Can successfully complete an approved Leadership Development Course
Obtain ICS 300 and 400 within one (1) year • ICS 100,200,700,800

Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible, in the absence of the EMS Operations Supervisor, for all EMS personnel as well as all equipment at the scene of a major response; day to day operations directing activities; and making decisions as to the best methods to be used
Handles grievances from officers and EMT’s/ Medics, Maintains departmental discipline and the conduct and general behavior of personnel
Assigns personnel and equipment to such duties and uses as the service requires
Assist in planning, organizing, and the direction of operations to insure operational readiness and proficiency.
Ensures that the scheduling for public relations, including staffing for special events is maintained.
Maintain good working relationship with all area public safety agencies and the public
Perform following functions with regard to above listed responses:
a. Provide en route communication and resource assignments
b. Provide on-scene EMS management and IC at major incidents
c. Provide support with additional equipment and manpower at major incident scenes
d. Provide help in cleaning and restocking ambulances following incidents
e. Provide back-up to on duty ambulances
f. Provide on-scene evaluation of operations and personnel
Routinely respond to calls of a serious nature to observe and assist the ambulance crews
Cover openings on ALS units with EMS1 as needed
Maybe required to cover ALS units off normal duty time to ensure 911 EMS system remains adequately staffed. No more than two (2) twenty-four (24) hour shifts each month.
Provide shift level oversight for preceptees and EMS students with regular meetings, remediation, commendation, and quality assurance methods to maintain the high standards of the Field Training Evaluation Program. Regularly reports to the Training Coordinator, and QA Coordinator regarding shift level field training and quality assurance matters.
Provide coordination and instruction for EMS New Hire Orientation.
Provide on-shift training and in-servicing for co-workers.
Maintain a high professional standard by receiving regular professional development.
Assignments are provided by indicating generally what is to be done. Quality and quantity expectations are provided. Additional details are provided for new, difficult, or unusual problems. Position may serve as a lead to other emergency service staff or volunteers
Additional Responsibilities:
Attend strategy and operational meetings with other supervisors, office staff, and service manager as needed
Identify areas of operational needs and assist the operational supervisor as needed
Assist with new hire orientation-providing consistent and thorough orientation of new employees by leading orientation and other training as necessary
Assist with annual evaluation processes
Daily logging of truck checks
Leading and subsequent logging of system Safety Huddle
Daily oversight, and management of EMS Staff
Other Departmental Assignments:
Protocol revision
PR and education
Budget formulation (i.e., staffing)
Other duties as assigned
