Description

The Simulation Operations Specialist collaborates with the EMS Program Director and EMS Clinical Coordinators in the EMS lab. This role supports simulation-based education by managing the technical and logistical aspects. This includes operating and maintaining equipment, setting up labs (with guidance), assisting with resource management, and ensuring the smooth functioning of the simulation lab. They also assist with training, troubleshooting, and contributing to the development of simulation scenarios based on technical requirements.

This professional-technical position works during the fall, spring, and summer semesters.

Essential Functions/Duties

Simulation Lab

  • Operating and maintaining high-fidelity manikins, control room systems, other medical and educational equipment, and audiovisual equipment.
  • Setting up simulation environments, including patient simulators, task trainers, and necessary medical equipment, as directed.
  • Programming simulator software, operating audiovisual systems, and troubleshooting technical issues.
  • Maintaining and managing supplies and equipment within the simulation lab.
  • Coordinating routine maintenance and repairs on lab equipment, as needed.
  • Ensuring the simulation lab is organized, clean, and compliant with safety and infection control protocols.
  • Assisting faculty and staff with simulation technology and potentially providing training on equipment operation.
  • Assisting with integrating new and emerging technologies into simulation training.
  • Tracking utilization of lab spaces and equipment with the EMS Program Director.
  • Maintaining records and compiling data for agency review, grant reconciliation, and accreditation reports as needed.

Simulation Technician Management

  • Orienting new EMS Adjuncts to the department's expectations and all equipment.
  • Assisting the EMS Program Director and EMS Clinical Coordinators with scheduling simulation technicians and adjunct clinical faculty to execute high-quality simulation-based educational experiences.
  • Collaborating with the EMS Program Director to evaluate all EMS Adjuncts on simulation annually.
  • Maintaining strict records of the EMS Adjunct's time and ensuring payroll accuracy in simulation.
  • Organizing annual orientation and updates for EMS Adjuncts and sharing opportunities for personal development that may apply to simulation-based education or new technologies.
  • Arranging coverage for the absences of other EMS Adjuncts in simulation as needed.

Other Duties

  • Participates in faculty and college-level meetings as assigned.
  • Engages in accreditation activities and supports student learning outcomes.
  • Collaborates with the Information Technology department to ensure all EMS computers for the labs, testing, and other uses within the department are up to date with software and fully functional.
  • Collaborates with the Information Technology department on network access, security protocols, and acquiring new equipment as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the EMS Program Director and EMS Clinical Coordinators.

Typical Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Exceptional skills in developing and implementing policies, procedures, and schedules.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and maintain accurate records.
  • Experience with simulation equipment, programs, and systems, and a willingness to learn new systems.
  • Ability to use complex audiovisual systems and assist faculty in integrating recordings into the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Demonstrate positive relationships with vendors to support new equipment and maintain existing equipment
  • Expected to participate in continuing education and professional development in simulation each year.
  • Maintain an updated BLS card during employment.

Working Conditions/Additional Information:

  • Works on both the Winter Haven and Lakeland campuses to meet the needs of simulation activities, lab maintenance, and inventory management.
  • Position may be required to work during College closures (such as winter/spring break and inclement weather closures).
  • Reliable transportation is required for travel to campuses, centers, and community locations.
  • This position will require the ability to lift at least 10 lbs.
  • Note: This position may require flexible scheduling, including evening or weekend hours as assigned, but not exceeding the regular work week hours.

Salary and Benefits Information

  • This position is a P12 level position.

Required Education:

  • Associates degree in computer sciences, digital media, or related field from an accredited institution.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

Preferred Certification:

  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) or ability to obtain certification within two years of employment.

Required Experience:

  • One year of simulation operations experience or two or more years in a technical field such as information technology, instructional resources, or digital media.
