Endoscopy Scrub/Tech

Summary The Endoscopy Scrub/Technician provides direct and indirect patient-care support across Endoscopy and the Operating Room under the direction of a Registered Nurse or other licensed caregiver. The technician prepares procedure and operating rooms; performs the scrub role within demonstrated competency; supports safe handling, decontamination, high-level disinfection, inspection, storage, and transport of flexible endoscopes and surgical instrumentation; and promotes efficient room turnover, accurate documentation, supply readiness, and equipment reliability. The role works collaboratively with nursing, physicians, anesthesia, Sterile Processing, Materials Management, vendors, and other departments to support safe, timely, patient-centered care. Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities High School Diploma or GED, required A graduate of an accredited surgical technology program, current surgical technology certification, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and documented scrub-role competency acceptable to the organization. One year of related healthcare, surgical services, sterile processing, or endoscopy experience required; two to threeyears of perioperative experience, preferred. Knowledge of aseptic technique, surgical instrumentation, decontamination, packaging, sterilization, and flexible endoscope reprocessing principles. Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn clinical, inventory, charge-entry, and documentation systems. Strong organization, prioritization, manual dexterity, attention to detail, and ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced, high-stress environment. Effective verbal and written communication, respectful teamwork, and excellent customer service. Ability to work independently within assigned responsibilities, recognize variances, escalate safety concerns promptly, and accept changing assignments across both departments. Licensure and Certification Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, required A Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER) or Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) is required within one year of hire or transfer, in accordance with organizational policy. Surgical Technologist Certification, preferred and required when mandated by applicable law, regulation, or organizational policy. Physical and Environmental Demands Requires full range of body motion; frequent standing and walking for extended periods; bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and manual/finger dexterity; and occasional lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing sufficient for assigned duties. Work occurs in fast-paced and potentially high-stress clinical environments with exposure to blood, body fluids, communicable disease, chemicals, disinfectants, sharps, radiation, and other perioperative hazards.
