    Description

Shamrock Business Consulting is working with a mission-critical general contractor to find a Commissioning Engineer for a multi-year data center project in Fargo, North Dakota.

This is the GC side of commissioning. You are not the third-party agent writing scripts from an office — you are the builder’s technical resource in the field, making sure systems are actually ready when the CxA shows up to test. Installations complete, prerequisites closed, trades staged, documentation in hand. When a test fails, you are the one who figures out why and gets it fixed.

    WHAT YOU'LL DO

    • Support commissioning execution across electrical, mechanical, controls, and life safety systems
    • Verify installation completeness and system readiness before functional and integrated testing begins
    • Coordinate with the third-party Commissioning Agent so their requirements are understood and supported in the field
    • Participate in and support factory witness testing, startup, functional performance testing, and Integrated Systems Testing
    • Review commissioning scripts and test procedures for constructability and field feasibility
    • Track and drive closure of commissioning deficiencies, test failures, and punch items
    • Remove roadblocks to testing — access, trade conflicts, incomplete installations, vendor availability
    • Review submittals, shop drawings, and sequences of operation against design intent
    • Support Level 1 through Level 5 execution and understand what each level requires before it can start
    • Maintain commissioning documentation, test records, and turnover packages
    • Coordinate with trade partners, vendors and OEMs, QA/QC, and owner representatives
    • Enforce site safety during testing, including energized work controls and LOTO
    • Report testing progress, issue status, and readiness for turnover to the Commissioning Manager

    WHAT YOU BRING

    • General contracting experience. You have worked for a GC and understand how a job actually gets built — sequencing, trade coordination, and schedule pressure
    • Engineering degree in mechanical, electrical, or a related field, or equivalent field experience
    • Three or more years in commissioning, startup, or MEP field execution
    • Working knowledge of critical power and cooling systems — UPS, switchgear, generators, ATS, chillers, CRAH and CDU, BMS and EPMS
    • Familiarity with L0 through L5 commissioning levels and what each one requires
    • Ability to read one-lines, schematics, control drawings, and sequences of operation
    • Comfortable holding trade partners and vendors accountable in the field
    • Strong documentation discipline
    • Willing to be on site in Fargo full-time for the duration of the project

    NICE TO HAVE

    • CxA, CPMP, CCP, QCxP, or BCxP certification, or working toward one
    • Experience with CxAlloy, BIM 360, or Autodesk Construction Cloud
    • Exposure to NETA acceptance testing and load bank operations

    WHY THIS ROLE

Most commissioning engineers sit on the consultant side and inherit a process someone else designed. On the GC side you are inside the build, with the schedule, the trades, and the authority to fix what is broken instead of writing it up and waiting. It is a multi-year project, so you get to see systems through from rough-in to turnover rather than parachuting in at the end.

    COMPENSATION

    • 5X10 guaranteed (last 10 hours are OT)
    • 7 day per week per diem
    • Medical, dental, vision
    • 15 days PTO
    • And more
