Job Title: Energy Marshal
Job Description
The Energy Marshal will be responsible for the management and oversight of energy isolation and energization processes within a construction environment. This role ensures compliance with safety regulations and standards, while supporting energization and commissioning activities.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and enforce site-specific Energy Isolation Procedures (EIP).
- Oversee all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) activities for various energy systems including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and stored energy systems.
- Review and approve energy isolation permits and switching procedures.
- Verify proper identification, isolation, and testing of energy sources before work begins.
- Maintain energy isolation logs, tracking systems, and documentation.
- Coordinate energization schedules with construction, commissioning, and owner teams.
- Participate in pre-energization planning meetings.
- Review Method of Procedures (MOPs), commissioning scripts, and switching plans.
- Monitor energization, startup, and commissioning activities to ensure compliance with approved procedures.
- Conduct field audits and inspections of energized work activities.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E, NEC requirements, and client standards.
- Verify that only qualified personnel perform work on energized systems.
- Stop work when unsafe conditions or procedural violations are observed.
- Assist in incident investigations and corrective action development.
- Identify hazardous energy risks and develop mitigation measures.
- Review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) related to energized work.
- Ensure appropriate PPE requirements are established and enforced.
- Coordinate interface management between multiple trade contractors to prevent hazardous energy conflicts.
- Maintain accurate records of energized systems, energy control boundaries, LOTO activities, energization permits, isolation plans, and incident and audit reports.
- Update one-line diagrams and energization status reports.
- Provide daily and weekly reporting to project leadership.
- Conduct Energy Marshal orientations for project personnel.
- Provide ongoing training on LOTO requirements and safe energy control procedures.
- Lead daily coordination meetings regarding energization activities.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for hazardous energy questions and issues.
Essential Skills
- Over 10 years of Energy Marshal experience within construction.
- Experience in data centers.
- Knowledge and certification of NFPA 70E.
- Ability to write control plans and interpret one-line diagrams.
- Proficiency in managing LOTO procedures.
Work Environment
The role is based on a construction site, requiring adherence to safety standards and PPE use. The Energy Marshal will work closely with various teams to ensure safe and efficient energy control and commissioning activities.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $80.00/hr.
