As an Engineer in our Engineering Department, you'll be part of a team managing heavy civil capital construction projects, reviewing private development projects, executing annual service, maintenance and emergency response contracts, all while interacting with a team of dedicated professionals both internal and external to the City. From inception to construction, you will play a crucial role in turning conceptual plans into tangible and successful construction projects, driving progress, and ensuring the highest standards of quality and efficiency.

Required Qualifications

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:

  • Engineer I: Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.
  • Engineer II: Requires a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.
  • Engineer III: Requires a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

  • Engineer I: None required with possession of a related bachelor's degree. Without a degree, two years of experience in addition to the degree equivalency are required.
  • Engineer II: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.
  • Engineer III: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of five years of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City Driving Standards. Depending on position, State and/or City certification(s) may be required.

  • Engineer II: Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license desired.
  • Engineer III: Depending on assignment, a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) may be required. A Professional Engineer license is also required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
