Job Description

We are seeking an Engineer I who will be responsible for maintaining and repairing guest rooms to ensure a safe, functional, and exceptional guest experience. This role delivers prompt, professional service while upholding the highest standards of cleanliness, presentation, and hospitality. Engineers are expected to work efficiently, communicate courteously with guests, and leave each room in pristine condition.

 

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair all guest rooms in accordance with established standards and preventative maintenance guidelines
  • Respond to guest room service requests within 15 minutes, ensuring timely and efficient resolution
  • Greet guests professionally when entering occupied rooms, confirm it is a convenient time to complete work, and provide updates upon completion
  • Ensure all work areas are left clean and orderly, removing all tools, materials, and signs of maintenance activity; coordinate with Housekeeping as needed
  • Maintain HVAC filters, lighting, fixtures, appliances, and basic room systems
  • Perform basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical repairs within guest rooms
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including daily logs and completed service requests
  • Keep PM carts stocked with necessary tools, parts, and materials
  • Communicate completion of work orders with dispatch or appropriate team members
  • Follow all safety procedures and complete required training certifications
  • Support emergency response procedures in alignment with hotel standards
  • Provide lateral service and assist other departments as needed

 

Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of guest room maintenance including:
    • Door hardware, locks, and entry systems (e.g., Vingcard, Mortise)
    • HVAC systems, thermostats, and controls
    • Plumbing systems including drains, toilets, and fixtures
    • Electrical systems including outlets, lighting, and breakers
    • Appliances, televisions, phones, and basic technology systems
  • Familiarity with fire and life safety systems preferred
  • Ability to read and follow maintenance instructions and safety procedures
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry materials and equipment throughout the property
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, and ladder use required
  • Strong ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to respond quickly to guest needs and emergency situations
  • Occasional driving of company vehicle, including during snow or weather-related conditions
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; trade school or technical training preferred
  • Previous experience in building maintenance, hospitality engineering, or a related field preferred

 

Work Environment

  • Primarily indoor work within guest rooms and hotel spaces, with occasional outdoor tasks
  • Exposure to varying temperatures and maintenance-related environments
  • Regular use of hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment
