Assess fleet health, performance, failure trends, replacement needs, and asset management plans for substation, transmission line, and distribution line assets using inspection, maintenance, operational, and asset data.
Analyze complex technical data, develop business requirements, and recommend practical technical solutions, processes, procedures, standards, and documentation.
Develop and maintain spare strategies, replacement recommendations, portfolio planning support, and risk-reduction actions to improve fleet reliability and inform long-term investment decisions.
Evaluate equipment specifications, industry announcements, emerging technologies, and design standards to support equipment standardization, monitoring capabilities, and fleet performance.
Analyze the population, application, condition, and risk of distribution substation breakers, line breakers, and reclosers across the FirstEnergy fleet in coordination with asset management, Asset Information & Tools, distribution engineering, and other stakeholders.
Assess and support online asset monitoring programs, including data requirements, performance indicators, and operational value.
Support training material development for new and existing distribution operational technology in coordination with workforce development and subject matter experts.
Provide technical support to leadership, distribution engineering, asset management, Asset Information & Tools, FE Utilities, and other internal partners.
Manage changing priorities, periodic local travel, occasional overnight stays, storm duty support, and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:
Qualifications at the Engineer III level include:
Bachelor of Science degree in electrical or mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited institution is required. Acceptable alternatives are: (1) a Professional Engineer's (PE) license; or (2) a bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, or a closely related technical engineering discipline, plus an advanced degree in electrical or mechanical engineering from a university with an ABET-accredited bachelor's program.
Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
Knowledge of transmission and distribution systems, including substation, line, protection, and related operational technology.
Experience analyzing complex technical data and developing recommendations related to asset performance, reliability, spare strategy, risk, or replacement planning.
Ability to translate stakeholder needs into technical solutions, processes, procedures, standards, and documentation.
Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills, with sound judgment and attention to detail.
Proficient with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Qualifications at the Engineer IV level include all of the above, plus:
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
Demonstrated ability to independently lead complex technical assignments, fleet assessments, strategy development, and cross-functional initiatives.
Proven ability to anticipate technical needs, influence stakeholders, implement practical solutions, and mentor others.
Preferred:
Understanding of substation and line equipment, breakers, reclosers, protective devices, and related distribution operational technology.
Knowledge of substation and line equipment maintenance practices.
Ability to read and understand substation design prints, bills of material, equipment specifications, and instruction manuals.
Experience with equipment applications, specifications, spare planning, replacement recommendations, reliability improvements, monitoring technologies, or industry standards.
Experience using asset management, maintenance, reporting, or data tools such as Cascade, Powerbase, Doble Testing, transformer oil analysis, Power BI, SAP, Maximo, SQL, or similar tools.

This will be determined based upon the results of the interview process which considers the candidate's skills, work history, experience level, and other relevant qualifications.
