JOB SUMMARY:

The Engineer II, Networks and Communications will perform moderately complex activities related to the support and administration of Ride and Show Networks (RSNs). This position includes maintenance, design, communications infrastructure implementation, acceptance testing and continual auditing of the attractions and parkwide networks, as well as all related network and control system security, troubleshooting, and fault analysis.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Execute attractions technology engineering strategy, including:

Evolve and Improve Ride & Show Networks

  • Aid development and manage Type-1 and Type-2 network supervisory safety, reaction and monitoring systems for new and existing park attractions.
  • Maintain, and improve co-existing wired and wireless networks, working with Parks Technology where required.
  • Implement and support the next generation of shared services for ride show networking via a secured parkwide infrastructure.
  • Participate in attraction architecture renovations and updates to take advantage of new technology, safety, and security techniques.
  • Understand hardware and firmware currently in use and ensure updates as appropriate for upgraded and obsolete equipment.
  • Remain up to date with latest technology regarding hardware, software and security tools.

Maintain Good Cybersecurity Posture & Manage Cybersecurity Risk

  • Co-design 3-tier and ISA-99 defense-in-depth network models to enforce and increase network segregation and security among ride show networks, under guidance of senior engineers.
  • Secure attraction and parkwide RSNs to prevent misuse and unauthorized access to RSN resources by maintaining appropriate Access Control methods.
  • Utilize Asset and Vulnerability management solutions to monitor and remediate security findings.
  • Implement and maintain appropriate safeguards including firewalls and Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems.

Provide Tier 2 Design & Maintenance Support

  • Assist all attractions at Universal Orlando Resort as required, including training controls and tech services personnel.
  • Guide Business Partners including Engineering, Ride & Show, Universal Creative, and liaison with Universal Parks Technology as needed.
  • Participate in weekly on call rotation schedule.
  • Adhere to safety and design strategies, including support systems such as Access Control and Building Management.

Prevent Attraction Downtime

  • Utilize centralized monitoring systems to timely respond to incidents, address issues, and increase resiliency.
  • Maintain proper disaster recovery resources.
  • Implement redundancy to maintain system availability.
  • Perform periodic network performance and capacity analysis to ensure ride sustainability.

Keep Documentation Current

  • Ensure that change modification tracking is implemented and reviewed, following the established engineering change processes.
  • Design and execute acceptance testing strategies including regular auditing of existing networks.
  • Maintain configuration management of hardware and software configuration and documentation in accordance with Engineering’s guidelines.
  • Ensure proper access, accountability, and processes are in place for appropriate maintenance, support, and design of RSNs in new and existing attractions.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years’ experience with: IT networking, IT systems, firewalls, wireless network design.
  • 5+ years’ experience with: server administration and support, Active Directory, RADIUS authentication, 802.1X, DHCP, DNS, large network integration with multiple levels of safety and security requirements.
  • 5+ years’ experience with: Virtualization, IDS and IPS, asset life cycles, change control, acceptance testing.
  • 2+ years’ experience with supervising / managing network cabling infrastructure projects;
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Cisco / Palo Alto firewalls
  • Network security, access lists, SSH, SCP, IPSec,

Preferred

  • VMWare, Linux, UCS / Dell servers, Cisco ISE
  • Experience in Audio, Video, and Lighting in the entertainment industry
  • Knowledgeable in ASTM and F24 standards, as well as ISA-99

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Participates in an on-call 24/7 rotation to facilitate engineering maintenance and support per departmental guidelines. Business requirements include being an internal consultant to Engineering, Universal Creative (UC), Tech Services (TS) and Vendors.
