Job Summary:


General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.


Under general supervision with limited review, this position is responsible for determining and developing effective approaches for resolving a wide range of difficult engineering problems. Assignments are normally outlined in terms of overall objectives and anticipated results. Work is reviewed at milestones or at completion for adequacy in meeting objectives. Documents findings, communicates results to engineering staff and makes technical presentations as required. May coordinate segments of a specific project and may have frequent inter- organization and customer contact on difficult technical issues. Provides direction to design or technical staff and may provide direction to less experienced professional staff.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


+ Develop, implement & improve manufacturing processes for the Ground Control Station (GCS) and related ground support equipment, including kitting, assembly, test, inspection and packaging operations.

+ Determine, monitor and analyze key performance indicator metrics – particularly regarding Safety, Quality, Schedule/Delivery and Cost – with improvement opportunities identified and undertaken accordingly, including assessment of the effectiveness of changes implemented.

+ Create and maintain process specifications, work instructions, master routings, work orders and related documentation for manufacturing processes, workmanship standards, handling/packaging, and determine certification requirements for special processes.

+ Ensure all shop personnel have the proper tooling, equipment, processes, documentation and training needed to produce quality parts.

+ Apply Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, DMAIC, PCDA, 5S, Standard Work, Takt, Value Stream Mapping, Pull System, Manufacturing Flow and similar methodologies for process development, implementation and improvement as applicable and appropriate.

+ Prepare recommendations for capital expenditures in support of manufacturing process improvements or related needs with supporting analysis and rationale as required, and if the expenditure is approved, coordinate for procurement, implementation.

+ Provide evaluation and disposition for non-conformances, including root cause analysis as well as participating in the corrective and preventative action process, contributing improvements for area of responsibility as applicable.

+ Advocate for design for manufacturability, producibility, testability, inspectability, maintainability, serviceability as well as best practices and alignment with production process capability through active participation in engineering design reviews and other collaborate efforts with engineering.

+ Critically review initial release engineering drawings and revision changes for manufacturing readiness (DFM, DFT, DFQ, et al), coordinate with design engineering and others to resolve any issues as necessary, approve the new/revised drawings and implement new processes, documentation, operations, etc as required.

+ Perform liaison function between the manufacturing departments, engineering, and supplier network.

+ Work with Design Engineering on new product development, testing and prototyping and introduction/launch in production.

+ Develops and implements practical and effective technical solutions to a broad range of complex manufacturing problems.

+ May represent the organization as a technical contact, including participation in the customer milestone completion, acceptance process, and other venues as well as engagement with suppliers.

Job Qualifications:


+ Typically requires a bachelors or masters degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and two or more years of engineering experience with a bachelors degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.

+ Must have a complete understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and, expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.

+ Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.

+ Must have excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one engineering area; and, lead a team of less experienced professional employees on semi-routine tasks.

+ Able to work extended hours as required.

+ A Professional Engineering License is desirable.

+ Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Security clearance is required.
