Examples of Duties

Under general supervision, serves as a project engineer for various professional engineering sewer project and as the primary contact for the water and sewer linear (pipelines) asset management program. Manages sewer capital improvement projects of smaller scope and budget.

  • Coordinates and executes tasks associated with the water and sewer linear (pipelines) asset management program.
  • Manages the work of consultants, contractors and others.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of asset management standards and program policies.
  • Reviews and comments on consultant proposals.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports of program activities.
  • Implements Bureau asset management strategies.
  • Recommends the likelihood and consequence of failure criteria.
  • Coordinates work between consultants, the Department and other County agencies.
  • Assist with coordinating program requirements and access needs to County IT staff.
  • Maintains existing asset management models and oversees development and deployment of new models.
  • Performs various work in the design of engineering projects, including drafting and reviewing plans, determining right-of-way requirements, writing special provisions, and preparing construction estimates and technical studies.
  • Manages the design, review, and approval of small scope and budget sewer pipeline capital improvement projects.
  • Coordinates the work of in-house staff and consultants with regard to sewer capital improvement projects.
  • Coordinates project schedules and deadlines.
  • Operates computers and peripheral equipment to perform GIS work and computer-aided drafting and design of engineering drawings, plans and projects.
  • Performs periodic field inspections and/or site visits of construction projects or to verify existing conditions.
  • Investigates and responds to engineering-related complaints from the public.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelors degree in engineering.

PLUS

Two years field or office engineering experience.

Additional qualifying education beyond a bachelors degree may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

OR

Possession of a certificate of registration as an Engineer in Training issued by a State within the United States of America, plus two years field or office engineering experience.

Licenses and Certificates

Possession of a valid drivers license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland drivers license may be required for some positions at the time of appointment.

Salary

Annual Salary review - Step increases may be granted on anniversary date based on satisfactory job performance

General Increases - Cost of living increases and adjustments may be granted as legislated.
