Whether enhancing existing transportation networks or pioneering new mobility solutions, DEA's knowledge helps shape a future where safe, efficient, convenient, and accessible mobility leads the way for sustainable growth and improved quality of life in our communities.The Transit and Rail Practice is seeking a Civil Engineer‑in‑Training in Bellevue, Seattle, or Tacoma, WA.The role of the Junior Civil Engineer‑in‑Training is to provide engineering, design, and observation activities related to rail transit, freight rail, and bus‑rapid transit projects under the direction of a licensed civil engineer. These activities will occur both in the office and on project sites. Because we serve transit agency and freight railroad clients on projects across the United States, some travel may be required.What You'll DoDesign of track, busways, and related transit and railroad facilitiesDesign of grading, drainage, utilities, roadways and at‑grade crossings, including supporting related permittingProduction of drawings, layouts, maps, corridor and 3D modeling, and graphic representations of engineering designs using either AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads or OpenRailPreparation of design details, schematics, and engineering specificationsCoordination with other project disciplines including structural, architectural, geotechnical, surveying, and other aspects of a projectPreparation of quantity and cost estimatesLimited field observation on project sites before, during, and after constructionSite assessments in support of facility management and maintenance programsWhat You BringRequired QualificationsInterest in transit and rail projectsBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology0–3 years of freight rail design experienceLicensed Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employmentAbility to travel on a limited basis, up to 25% of the time at intervals of up to a weekAbility to work independently and collaboratively within a teamComfortable working on fast‑paced projectsExcellent communication skills, attention to detail, and organizational traitsProficiency with Microsoft Office software and communication toolsPreferred QualificationsExperience designing elements of transit trackways, busways, freight tracks, or public roadwaysExperience designing elements of bus, commuter rail, and/or transit facilitiesExperience with freight railroad or transit agency design standardsMembership in AREMA, APTA, MPACT, APWA, or ASCEMembership in an AREMA, APWA, APTA, or ASCE student chapterExperience using AutoCAD Civil 3D or Bentley OpenRoads or OpenRail design softwareWhat We OfferWe foster an environment where talented professionals have the freedom and support to do their most meaningful work.
