We are seeking an experienced Engineer IV – Transmission Line Design to provide engineering, design, and technical expertise supporting transmission line projects throughout the Carolinas West region.
This position requires an engineer who is fully competent in transmission line engineering principles and capable of handling complex assignments with very minimal supervision. The Engineer IV will support projects from routing and conceptual development through detailed design, construction, and field support.
Important: This role requires direct Transmission Line Design experience. Distribution experience will NOT transfer to this position.
Candidates should have 8+ years of overall engineering experience, including a minimum of 2 years specifically in Transmission Line Design, along with Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
Provide engineering and technical expertise for transmission line design.
Analyze project scenarios, evaluate alternatives, and perform engineering calculations in accordance with design standards and applicable codes.
Support transmission line routing and siting.
Develop conceptual designs and cost estimates.
Perform detailed structure, foundation, and electrical design for transmission line projects.
Prepare thorough and accurate job packages, calculations, drawings, technical reports, correspondence, and engineering documentation.
Independently identify, analyze, and resolve complex transmission line design issues.
Conduct engineering studies and complete non-routine engineering projects with minimal oversight.
Independently manage project schedules, engineering interfaces, and assigned deliverables.
Provide construction support, oversight, troubleshooting, and on-site technical assistance.
Modify designs to address construction issues, environmental conditions, and public concerns.
Evaluate technical alternatives and develop sound engineering recommendations.
Recommend improvements to engineering processes and transmission line design standards.
Support project and business goals through effective planning, estimating, organization, execution, and monitoring of work activities.
Coordinate effectively with engineering, construction, project teams, and other stakeholders.
Maintain accurate engineering records and project files.
Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, state registration as a Professional Engineer, or a Master's degree in Engineering in lieu of the bachelor's degree.
Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
Minimum 8 years of engineering experience.
Minimum 2 years of direct Transmission Line Design experience.
Utility industry experience.
Strong knowledge of transmission line engineering theories, principles, practices, codes, and standards.
Proficiency with transmission line design software, including:
PLS-CADD
PLS-TOWER
PLS-POLE
MFAD
Strong technical and analytical problem-solving skills.
Experience researching solutions, evaluating alternatives, and developing and presenting engineering recommendations.
Ability to independently handle increasingly complex engineering assignments.
Strong project management, planning, and organizational skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to effectively collaborate across engineering, construction, project, and field teams.
The strongest candidate will be an experienced utility engineer who can independently take on Transmission Line Design assignments from conceptual development through detailed engineering and construction support.
Direct transmission experience is the key differentiator for this position. Candidates with backgrounds focused primarily on distribution design without hands-on Transmission Line Design experience will not be considered a direct match.
