JT4, LLC provides engineering and technical support to multiple western test ranges for the U.S. Air Force, Space Force, and Navy under the Joint Range Technical Services Contract, better known as J-Tech II. JT4 develops and maintains realistic, integrated test and training environments and prepares our nation's war-fighting aircraft, weapons systems, and aircrews for today's missions and tomorrow's global challenges.

JOB DUTIES - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

An Engineer IV serves as a technical advisor responsible for a broad program involving development, budgeting, scheduling, project management, and installation of systems.

Employee will be responsible for the following functions/duties:

  • Perform in a supervisor role for engineers involved in the development, testing, integration, and sustainment of specialized and diverse software, electronic, and/or mechanical equipment, and systems
  • Determine test objectives, instrumentation, and data requirements
  • Write test planning documents, schedule program activities, track funding and expenditures, plan and conduct test missions, analyze resultant data, document results in test reports, statistical evaluations and briefing presentations
  • Direct interface with internal and external customers at all levels from quotation to final design
  • Act as liaison for test activities, design reviews, and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications
  • Generate complete design specifications for more complex projects
  • Coordinate and work closely with other engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements
  • Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures
  • Prepare, deliver, and submit technical papers and perform engineering studies
  • Support development of technical proposals and provide comments on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work
  • Act as a company/industry expert resource on the most complex engineering problems
  • Maintain technical project responsibility for assigned tasks and advise management of progress in support of the technical and administrative direction of project operations
  • Conduct site visits and experimental investigations and analyze engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations
  • Develop, interpret, and implement technical and administrative operating policies and procedures

RANGE POSITION DESCRIPTION

This role is for a Principal V&V Engineer at Edwards AFB, CA, supporting the Joint Simulation Environment (JSE)—a high-fidelity virtual environment used for USAF pilot training and acquisition flight tests. The position leads V&V efforts from requirements through data analysis to ensure simulation realism.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Strategy & Testing: Develop and execute comprehensive V&V test programs, plans, and protocols to ensure JSE platforms and systems mirror real-world tactical aircraft.
  • Test Design & Execution: Draft detailed test cards and procedures, coordinate scenario development with Operations Engineers, and guide the test team during live execution.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyze raw simulation data using Python and MATLAB to troubleshoot anomalies, identify root causes of failures, and author final test reports for customers.
  • Collaboration & Leadership: Represent V&V at programmatic reviews (SRRs, PDRs/CDRs) and stakeholder meetings; coordinate across diverse organizational teams and mentor junior engineers.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8+ years of V&V experience in R&D or test environments.
  • Deep knowledge of DoD Test & Evaluation processes in major acquisition programs.
  • Proven experience writing, briefing, and executing test plans and test cards.
  • Technical proficiency in Python and MATLAB.
  • Strong cross-functional coordination, verbal/written communication, and stakeholder advocacy skills.
  • 3+ years of flight test experience as a discipline engineer or test conductor.
  • Experience with simulator software like NGTS or DIADS.
  • Exposure to M&S concepts/standards (e.g., AFSIM, JSE Framework).
  • Experience with requirements/test/defect tools (DOORS, Jama, JIRA).

REQUIREMENTS - EDUCATION, TECHNICAL, AND WORK EXPERIENCE

A Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited academic institution and eight (8) years of related engineering experience, or an accredited Master of Science in Engineering and a minimum of six (6) years of related engineering experience, or an accredited doctorate degree in engineering and a minimum four (4) years of related engineering experience are required for this position.

In addition, an Engineer IV must possess the following qualifications:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of concepts, principles, and practices of engineering to provide consultative services on development programs and in the design and development of systems and components
  • Knowledge and skill sufficient to apply the latest developments in engineering to solve complex problems in the specialty area
  • Working knowledge of computer systems and computer-based engineering tools
  • Well-developed leadership skills
  • Ability to investigate, troubleshoot, and design solutions to problems from a broad perspective
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills
  • Planning/organizational skills and the ability to work under deadlines
  • Must possess a valid, state issued driver’s license
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance
  • Must be a U.S. citizen

SALARY

The expected salary range for this position is $135,000 to $170,000 annually.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in a typical office environment with no unusual hazards. Occasional lifting (up to 20 pounds), constant sitting with occasional use of computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, and constant mental alertness are required.

Travel to remote company work locations may be required.
