GA-EMS has an exciting opportunity for a Nuclear Engineer with the Radiation Monitoring Systems team in Rancho Bernardo, CA. Our team designs and maintains mechanical, electrical, and software systems used in nuclear power plants across the world to detect and monitor radiation. This role will mainly focus on the nuclear engineering aspects associated with the detectors, but will collaborate closely with other engineering disciplines. It will involve both supporting upgrades and troubleshooting of installed customer equipment, as well as developing new designs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
+ Serve as a subject matter expert for radiation detection and theory within the organization.
+ Lead updates to existing designs to address obsolescence through a formal engineering design review process.
+ Develop and communicate new designs for radiation monitoring systems in accordance with customer requirements.
+ Represent the organization as a technical contact for customer technical questions/troubleshooting.
+ Organize, schedule, and coordinate work to adhere to budget and schedule.
+ Support the calibration of radiation detectors.
+ Perform advanced calculations and modeling to define detector capabilities and specifications.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
+ Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications:
+ Typically requires a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; six or more years of experience with a bachelor’s degree, four or more years of experience with a master’s degree, or two or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
+ Degree in Nuclear Engineering is desired.
+ Must have a thorough understanding of radiation detection concepts, principles, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and, expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.
+ Experience with other engineering disciplines is a plus.
+ Familiarity with the applications of radiation detection/monitoring systems in industry. Experience with health physics is a plus.
+ Familiarity with MCNP and other relevant engineering modeling software is desired.
+ Familiarity with the formal Engineering Change Management processes. Experience with Windchill is a plus.
+ Strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one or more engineering areas; capable of representing the organization as a technical contact and, lead a team of moderately experienced professional employees on single component projects.
+ Able to work extended hours as required.
