Position Specific Description
Client is seeking a Senior / Principal RNG Engineer to support our growing fleet of Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) and Landfill Gas to Energy (LFGTE) facilities. This role is designed for a highly experienced, operations-focused engineer who understands RNG plant systems inside and out and can serve as a key technical leader across operations, maintenance, and project support.
This position acts as a trusted partner to Operations Managers, driving plant reliability, maintenance strategy, and operational excellence across multiple sites. A key responsibility of this role includes leading and supporting the transition of new and existing plants from construction and commissioning into fully integrated, steady-state operations.
This is a high-impact, multi-disciplinary role requiring ownership, adaptability, and the ability to influence performance across a geographically diverse fleet.
Travel: Up to 40% travel is expected to support site operations, troubleshooting, commissioning, and project activities.

Key Responsibilities & Job Duties
Operations & Plant Performance
  • Provide advanced technical support to RNG and LFGTE plant operations to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient performance
  • Monitor plant systems and gas collection networks to optimize gas yield, quality, and uptime
  • Lead complex troubleshooting efforts and root cause analysis for operational and equipment issues
  • Identify and implement operational improvements to enhance plant reliability and production
Maintenance & Asset Management
  • Lead development and optimization of preventative and corrective maintenance programs across RNG assets
  • Utilize and enhance Maximo (CMMS) for asset management, work order execution, and maintenance planning
  • Partner with site teams to improve maintenance execution, outage planning, and long-term asset reliability
  • Drive resolution of chronic equipment issues through data analysis and field engagement
  • Support spare parts strategy, inventory optimization, and critical equipment planning
Plant Readiness & Operational Transition
  • Lead and support the transition of RNG facilities from construction/commissioning into full operations ( readiness to operations )
  • Develop and implement operational readiness plans, including procedures, staffing alignment, and system handoff requirements
  • Ensure maintenance programs, spare parts, and asset strategies are established prior to startup
  • Support commissioning, startup, and performance validation to ensure a smooth transition to steady-state operations
  • Identify and resolve gaps between project delivery and operational requirements
Project & Field Support
  • Serve as a senior technical resource for Project Managers during plant upgrades, expansions, and commissioning
  • Support scope development, field execution, and startup activities for new and existing assets
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery
Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
  • Analyze plant performance, downtime, and maintenance data to identify trends and improvement opportunities
  • Develop reports, dashboards, and KPIs to support operational decision-making
  • Lead or support fleet-wide initiatives for standardization, reliability improvement, and efficiency gains
  • Promote best practices across RNG and LFGTE operations
Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Act as a technical leader and mentor to engineers and site personnel
  • Serve as a liaison between operations, engineering, and business teams
  • Support onboarding of new assets, including development of operational and maintenance procedures
  • Build strong relationships with field teams, vendors, and internal stakeholders

Job Overview
Employees in this role are responsible for leading and executing complex engineering and operational initiatives across RNG and LFGTE facilities. This includes providing technical leadership, supporting maintenance and reliability programs, and ensuring successful transition of assets into long-term operations.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or related) from an ABET-accredited program
  • Experience:
    • Senior Level: 5+ years
    • Principal Level: 8+ years
      in RNG, LFGTE, power generation, or similar industrial/process environments
  • Strong expertise in plant operations, maintenance practices, and industrial equipment systems
  • Experience with CMMS platforms (preferably Maximo) and maintenance program management
  • Demonstrated ability to lead troubleshooting and resolve complex operational issues
  • Experience supporting plant startup, commissioning, or operational readiness transitions
  • Ability to manage multiple sites and priorities in a field-oriented environment
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct experience with RNG or landfill gas operations
  • Experience leading maintenance, reliability, or outage programs
  • Familiarity with compressors, gas treatment systems, flares, and related equipment
  • Experience supporting commissioning and startup of industrial facilities
  • Six Sigma or continuous improvement experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Power BI, etc.)
