Position Overview

As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will translate engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into operational steps and processes to produce fully functional hardware at scale. Responsibilities include supporting builds, translating engineering definitions into manufacturing work instructions, and developing/qualifying new technology. Successful candidates will lead DFMA studies to strengthen the feedback loop between design, build, and test, accelerating product development.

Responsibilities include:

  • Define manufacturing processes and requirements to prepare hardware for test, qualification, and flight operations.
  • Translate engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into fully functional production hardware.
  • Identify, develop, and implement new manufacturing methods or improve existing processes to enhance quality, reduce cost, and optimize build schedules.
  • Conduct Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) studies to improve the feedback loop between design, manufacturing, and test.
  • Develop material handling and packaging solutions to protect hardware throughout the manufacturing and testing lifecycle.
  • Create and maintain manufacturing work instructions defining processes including receiving inspection, fabrication, assembly, integration, testing, and refurbishment.
  • Manage cost, quality, build sequence, and production schedules throughout the hardware manufacturing process.
  • Create in-process engineering redlines and recommend design improvements to enhance manufacturability.
  • Lead Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) reviews.
  • Perform engineering drawing reviews and provide manufacturing feedback and approval.
  • Develop process controls and evaluate manufacturing performance through statistical analysis.
  • Support non-conformance disposition, repair, and rework activities.
  • Perform root cause analysis for manufacturing issues, non-conformances, and production escapes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Interface with external suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure hardware and equipment are manufactured, processed, packaged, and delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Design, procure, install, and integrate custom manufacturing equipment and production tooling.
  • Manage hardware configuration and maintain product pedigree throughout the manufacturing, integration, and testing process.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong mechanical and/or electrical engineering fundamentals.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, production engineering, or a related hardware manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience developing manufacturing process flows and selecting production equipment for electromechanical hardware.
  • Strong mechanical engineering knowledge, including GD&T, tolerance analysis, precision fits, and structural assembly.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings (GD&T) and electrical documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and interconnect drawings.
  • Strong written, communication, technical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with engineering and productivity tools, including CAD, issue tracking systems, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience in an electric motor or rotating electrical machine manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supporting one or more of the following aerospace hardware areas:
    • Avionics
    • Wire harnesses
    • Spacecraft structures
    • Spacecraft propulsion systems
    • Mechanical systems
    • Thermal protection systems
    • Thermal management systems
    • Environmental instrumentation
  • Experience establishing new production lines or manufacturing cells, including equipment procurement and facility layout.
  • Experience developing spacecraft or other Aerospace, Defense, and High Performance (ADHP) hardware.
  • Ability to obtain a DBIDS or NASA badge.
