About the role:
We are currently seeking an Engineer - Permitting to join our team. This person will perform essential duties within the Midwest environmental services department, responsible for operations in Indiana, Illinois, and Alabama, including directing or assisting in the development of surface and underground mine permit applications and reports; providing technical expertise in any of the technical aspects of permitting and compliance such as soils, hydrology, vegetation and wildlife; and preparing and/or coordinating with mine staffs on designs for hydrologic structures, permits, and reports.
The position is also responsible for permit administrative duties, including landowner notification mailings, annual blasting notices, and public notices.
The position may also provide field assistance to active mine sites.
Duties will include:
Preparation of scientific or engineering data for inclusion in permit applications, revisions, or amendments with the goal of meeting regulatory performance standards and minimizing mine costs.
Preparation and review of maps of permit operational plans, soils, land use, geology, and wildlife and corresponding information for inclusion in permit applications to a variety of regulatory agencies.
Preparation of and/or review of hydrologic designs and corresponding information for inclusion in permit applications to a variety of appropriate agencies. Work products may include maps, text, and tables.
Coordination and preparation of permit applications, revisions, and amendments. This may include collaboration with mine and agency personnel, as well as collaboration and directing the activities of department personnel as-needed.
Coordinate and prepare permit administration documents including:
Process landowner notification mailings (certified and other)
Intent to mine, permit renewals, post-mine land use comments, 6-month mining notifications, annual blasting notices, pre-mine surveys, ground water surveys.
Process annual blasting notice updates and submittals
Maintain SMCRA ownership and control data base and provide updates to regulatory agencies
Responsible for public notification requirements
Submit and track newspaper public notices
Submit necessary Proof of filing Affidavits to Regulatory Agencies as required
Process Preblast/Condition Survey Requests
Record and distribute regulatory agency correspondence
General engineering design, layout and monitoring.
Manage and supervise contractors on environmental/mining related projects.
Provide temporary assistance to the mine environmental staffs as required during times of extended personnel absences. Provide assistance to other Peabody Americas operations as needed.

The Lifestyle:
This position is a full-time role, working from Wild Boar mine in Indiana. The schedule is: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. M-F (or equivalent) with overtime and weekends as required.
