ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

We are seeking a Mechanical Test Engineer for an space company building a heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle designed from the ground up for human spaceflight, which would be a great opportunity for someone with experience in component-level testing of mechanical or fluid systems looking to further their career in spaceflight hardware development and qualification.

  • Own the planning and execution of development, qualification, and production test campaigns for New Glenn spaceflight systems, including mechanical, actuated, hydraulic, cryogenic, and pneumatic components and subassemblies.
  • Author and maintain detailed test procedures; lead test readiness reviews, pre-test briefings, and post-test data reviews to verify campaign success and maintain rigorous quality standards.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to define test requirements and with operations engineers to integrate test activities into appropriate test stands.
  • Identify and procure test fixtures, support equipment, and data acquisition systems required for your testing scope, partnering with tooling and equipment designers as needed.
  • Work directly with technicians to execute test procedures safely and efficiently, maintaining a safety-first culture on the shop floor and at the executive level alike.
  • Drive continuous efficiency improvements in testing activities to increase throughput without compromising quality or safety.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a relevant technical discipline.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in component testing and data analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage concurrent project schedules with strong attention to detail and organizational discipline.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly across all levels - from shop floor to executive leadership.
  • Genuine passion for spaceflight and space exploration.

BONUS QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of industry experience in launch vehicles, satellites, aircraft, motorsports, or oil & gas.
  • Technical expertise in the design, operation, or testing of high-pressure (up to 6,000 psi), cryogenic, actuated, or hydraulic systems; strong knowledge of fluid components including valves, regulators, actuators, and servo-valves.
  • Experience with sensors and instrumentation (pressure transducers, accelerometers, etc.), data acquisition systems, and test automation.
  • Familiarity with environmental testing standards (SMC-S-016, MIL-STD-1540, or MIL-STD-810) and precision clean hardware handling.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in data processing, reduction, and analysis techniques.
