Engineering Co-op Salary $22.26 Hourly Location: Akron, OH Job Type: Permanent Part-Time Job Number: 2026-E-3-423 Department: Public Service Department Opening Date: 01/02/2026

Description This is sub-professional work in a student work-study program in conjunction with a college or university baccalaureate co-op program. An employee in this class performs work in support of professional civil engineering, urban planning, architecture, or landscape architecture in any one of several areas as part of a coordinated program of employment and instruction with a college or university leading to a degree in engineering, surveying, or architecture.

Characteristic Work Receives training and performs duties in support of professional personnel of the City. Collects, compiles, and analyzes data. Conducts research and provides assistance with assigned projects. Performs quantity calculations to measure materials which have been installed on construction projects. Assists in quality control of construction work. Assists in preparing construction plans and setting up and operating various surveying instruments. Prepares daily reports of construction activities. Drives to work sites, meetings, and conferences. Performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications Completion of the required schooling at an accredited college or university for the start of co-op program in civil, structural, mechanical, chemical, industrial, or electrical engineering; construction engineering technology, surveying and mapping technology, landscape architecture, or architecture. Possession of a valid state of Ohio driver's license. Knowledge of basic research methods and techniques. Ability to prepare clear and concise reports. Ability to communicate in an effective manner both orally and in writing. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to think critically and to problem solve. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to operate personal computers. Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
