Description:

The purpose of this job within the organization is to prepare specifications for various projects in Street Operations and provide project management. This job works under administrative supervision, developing and implementing programs within organizational policies and reports major activities to executive level administrators through conferences and reports.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this job. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Essential Functions:

  • Manages various contracts, acts as a liaison between the City and the private landfills located within the City; inspects work on projects.
  • Inspects the operation and reviews records of landfills located within the City.
  • Serves as Citys Technical Advisory Committee member on the Central Waste Management Authority.
  • Assists Street Operations, General Manager and Director of Public Works in budget preparation and tracking.
  • Serves as Citys alternate on the Central Waste Management Authority board.
  • Inspects streets, sidewalks, and other infrastructure within street right of way.
  • Additional Duties:
  • Prepares project specifications;
  • Monitors production schedules and delivery dates for all vendors on all assigned projects.
  • Manages day-to-day activities; meets with outside governmental and landfill representatives, contractors, and the public.
  • Collects data for projects to be added to the Strategic Action Plan and Capital Improvement Plan.
  • Provides technical guidance to vendors on various projects.
  • Attends City Councilors neighborhood meetings.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Requires a Bachelors Degree in engineering. Requires four years experience in professional engineering work.
  • Special Certifications and Licenses: Valid Virginia Drivers License.
