The Engineering Fellow is a leading expert in a specific technical field and recognized as such both internally and externally with in the United States and possibly worldwide. The Engineering Fellow develops and applies innovative design methods, theories and research techniques in the solution of extremely complex engineering problems using superior knowledge. Research could include independent actions that support long-term strategic objectives of Twenty-Six Defense by creating new products and new business lines.
Responsibilities and Tasks
- The Engineering Fellow is a role model for engineers and provides stewardship for their respective discipline.
- Develops and applies innovative engineering design methods, theories and research techniques in the solution of extremely complex technical problems.
- Uses superior knowledge in the research and investigation of technical problems that leads to a suggested or recommended solution usually requiring ingenuity and resourcefulness.
- Monitors and analyzes the methods used to overcome highly technical problems for efficacy and understanding, applying all strategies for continuous improvement and quality control
- Can be assigned as the Technical Lead for the most complex, highly technical projects with in the facility and maybe be available to other locations that help produce a product.
- Will be the technical expertise for work-teams that include a variety of cross-functional members.
- Works with Business Development and Marketing as a key team-member in attracting and obtaining new business.
- May help coordinate the workflow between engineers and the technical support staff.
- Conducts investigations and tests of considerable complexity as directed by senior management.
- Reviews literature, patents and current practices related to the solution of all assigned projects.
- Recommends corrections in technical applications or manuals based on expertise knowledge.
- Evaluates vendor capabilities to provide highly complex products or services to ESA assuring the highest quality and being within specifications stated.
- Provides technical consultation to on-site Executive Management and also to other ESA locations, as requested.
- Provides the technical leadership of technical resources in order to perform independent technical reviews and is a national/international expert in respective discipline.
- Will provide stewardship for his/her discipline including holding conferences and workshops to enhance discipline awareness.
- Periodically reports the state of his or her discipline to the leadership.
- Ensures lessons learned are identified and incorporated into the standards process.
- Frequently leads teams, always providing the theoretical foundation for the task. He/she collaborates with other eminent researchers and engineers from academia and other research or operations centers on tasks and in conducting and sponsoring discipline advancing work.
- Communicates engineering findings through publications, scientific and engineering journals, tutorial seminars and short courses.
- Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge (Education/License/Certification, Prior Experience)- PhD is preferred
- Master degree is preferred
- Bachelor's degree is required
- Specific Degree Field Required: Engineering field directly related to core, strategic technologies.
Training Pre-requisites (Within One Year of Taking Position):- ESD
- Safety Training, as dictated by Safety Department
Skills and Abilities- The Engineering Fellow is not within a typical Engineering career path promotional move.
- Entry and validation of this job title is by invitation only.
- National recognition of Engineering expertise status within the United States.
- Ability to be companywide expert on specific engineering disciplines and theories.
- Ability to do extremely complex research & development within Engineering function.
- Experience as the Technical Lead for complex and high revenue projects.
- Ability to analyze, design and evaluate complex solutions for engineering problems.
- Experience with patents and new technology applications in products created.
- Past experience with publishing technical articles within expertise area.
- Ability to team with vendor on the highest complex technical specifications.
Travel/Physical RequirementsTravel as needed.
