The Engineering Field Technician supports drilling crews in the safe and efficient operation of drilling equipment for environmental, geotechnical, construction, and remediation projects. This role focuses on site setup, equipment maintenance, sample collection, and general labor tasks while providing hands-on training in drilling techniques and field operations. Responsibilities

  • Assist drillers with mobilization, setup, and operation of drilling equipment for a variety of environmental, geotechnical, construction, and remediation projects.
  • Load, unload, organize, and maintain drilling tools, rods, casing, and support equipment to ensure efficient and safe field operations.
  • Collect soil, groundwater, and rock samples in accordance with project specifications and established procedures.
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines, and help maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work site.
  • Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance on drilling equipment and tools to support reliable performance in the field.
  • Complete field documentation accurately and promptly, and provide support to project teams with required records and reports.
  • Carry out general manual labor tasks as needed, including site preparation, material handling, and cleanup.
  • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively for construction-related tasks such as basic carpentry and framing when required.
  • Measure and mark materials using a tape measure and other basic tools to support construction and drilling activities.
  • Travel regularly to project sites and work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extended stays away from home.
  • Demonstrate strong reliability, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn new drilling and field techniques from experienced team members.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including regularly lifting 50+ pounds and handling heavy equipment and materials.
  • Valid driver"s license with a clean driving record, and ability to meet motor vehicle record requirements for operating a work truck.
  • Comfort working outdoors for extended periods in varying and sometimes challenging weather conditions.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn new skills and follow instructions from experienced drillers and supervisors.
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand and assist with basic equipment maintenance and servicing tasks.
  • Capability to perform manual labor tasks safely and efficiently in a field construction or drilling environment.
  • Basic proficiency with hand and power tools, including safe operation and proper handling.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures consistently and contribute to a culture of safety on the job site.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience in construction, drilling, environmental field work, or general labor is a plus.
  • Experience as a driller's helper or in field construction work is beneficial.
  • Background in carpentry or framing work, including the ability to read measurements and use a tape measure accurately, is an advantage.
  • Experience performing servicing tasks on tools or equipment is helpful.
  • Strong attention to detail when collecting samples and completing field documentation.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a field crew.
  • Interest in long-term career growth, with openness to training and development opportunities in drilling and field engineering.

Work Environment

This position is primarily field-based and requires frequent travel to various project sites. The typical schedule involves approximately two weeks working away from home followed by one week on local projects. While working away, hotel accommodations are provided, and a daily per diem is available to cover meals and incidental expenses. The work is performed outdoors in a range of weather conditions and involves physically demanding tasks, including lifting, carrying, and operating equipment. You will work closely with drilling crews and construction teams, using hand and power tools, and performing manual labor and basic carpentry or framing tasks as needed. The environment emphasizes safety, teamwork, and continuous training, offering clear growth paths and opportunities to develop new technical skills over time.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lenexa, KS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
