Job Description and Duties

Join the Department of Water Resources as an Engineering Geologist and play an important role in understanding and protecting California's water resources. This position offers a great mix of field and office work, with opportunities to conduct groundwater, geologic, geomorphic, and hydrogeologic investigations; collect and analyze data; prepare technical reports and GIS maps; and support groundwater sustainability efforts throughout the Northern Region.

Working as part of a collaborative team, you'll contribute to meaningful water resource projects, work with local agencies and program partners, participate in field investigations, and apply your geological expertise to real-world challenges involving groundwater, rivers, and California's changing water landscape.

Special Requirements

Must possess a valid California driver's license to drive a personal, rental, or State vehicle to meetings, conferences, trainings, or project sites. The incumbent must be able to travel on short notice and stay overnight, for several consecutive days, at field locations.

  • Groundwater and geologic modeling
  • ArcGIS/GIS mapping and analysis
  • Technical report writing and technical presentations
  • Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP) and/or groundwater sustainability program experience
  • Fluvial geomorphology, bank erosion, channel migration, and/or sediment investigations
