Engineer – City of Lansing Public Service DepartmentThe City of Lansing Public Service Department invites applications for a full‑time Engineer who will focus on transportation aspects of public works projects, including traffic signals, non‑motorized facilities, traffic control, signage, and traffic calming.Key responsibilities include applying civil engineering principles to plan, design, and manage transportation infrastructure, utilizing project, construction, and personnel management skills.Special Requirements & TrainingMust possess and maintain a valid driver's license.Education & Experience RequirementsEducation : Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a similar technical field.Experience :Engineer I (36) – No specific type or amount of experience required.Engineer II (38) – Three (3) years of progressively responsible full‑time professional experience in the design, inspection and/or management of public infrastructure projects. Master's degree can substitute for one year of experience.Engineer III (40) – Five (5) years of progressively responsible full‑time professional experience in the design, inspection and/or management of public infrastructure projects, including streets, sewers, bridges, trails/pathways, sidewalks, wastewater treatment plant, pump stations, and traffic signals. Master's degree can substitute for one year of experience.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities RequirementsKnowledge of engineering principles applied to public works projects including streets, storm drains, sewers, and buildings; geotechnical engineering principles; drafting and mapping; surveying; estimating and project management.Skill in use of computers and software including spreadsheets, word processing, databases, CAD applications and engineering‑specific programs; ability to quickly learn new software.Skill in using, interpreting and preparing engineering plans, specifications and field reports; preparing clear and concise written reports; supervising the work of others; maintaining complex record systems.Ability to analyze, interpret, and explain technical plans, procedures, regulations, and codes.Equal Opportunity EmployerThe City of Lansing is an Equal Opportunity Employer and a Certified Veteran Friendly Employer.
